The Brittney Griner chatter is slowly cooling off but Dirk Nowitzki and Rick Carlisle weighed in sort of on Thursday morning.
You re kind of caught between a 3 and a 4 it s tough Nowitzki said regarding the fact that the 6 8 Baylor superstar would have to play either small forward or power forward. You ve got to be fast and athletic at that spot. You ve got to be able to shoot. You ve got to be able to go by people guard people on the other end chase people off of screen and rolls and post up. It s tough it s tough.
Never mind that Griner had more dunks this season than Nowitzki has.
The Griner topic has been hot since Tuesday when owner Mark Cuban said he s given consideration to either drafting Griner in the second round or at least inviting her for a tryout this summer.
As for Carlisle he took the diplomatic approach.
I haven t watched a single game all year he said. I know she s a hell of a player. Beyond that I don t want to get into the polarizing discussion about it.
I think it s important to have an owner who is open minded and I think it s important that the organization is open minded. But ultimately whether or not she can play is something I don t want to get into.
