The singer Linda Ronstadt has revealed in an interview with AARP Magazine that she has Parkinson s disease and that she is no longer able to sing as a result. Ms. Ronstadt 67 received her official diagnosis eight months ago although she had symptoms for the past eight years. I couldn t sing she said in the interview and I couldn t figure out why. I knew it was mechanical. I knew it had to do with the muscles. Her hands also began to shake but she attributed that symptom to a shoulder operation. A neurologist then diagnosed Parkinson s. I wouldn t have suspected that in a million billion years she said. Ms. Ronstadt s memoir Simple Dreams is to be released on Sept. 17 and chronicles her life and musical career. She has won 11 Grammy Awards and sold over 100 million records worldwide. But according to AARP s Web site the book does not discuss her diagnosis or the loss of her voice.
