NEW BRUNSWICK The truck driver involved in a six vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike early this morning that killed one person and severely injured three people including actor and comedian Tracy Morgan has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto according to a statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor s Office.

The driver Kevin Roper 35 of Jonesboro Ga . was expected to surrender to authorities the statement said.
A State Police spokesman said Roper failed to see slow moving traffic ahead of his rig as it traveled northbound on the Turnpike through Cranbury.
The truck slammed into a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter a passenger van carrying Morgan and several others.
James McNair 62 of Peekskill N.Y. a comedian best known as Jimmy Mac and one of Morgan s writers was pronounced dead at the crash scene about an hour after the 1 a.m. accident.
Four other passengers including Morgan were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Morgan 45 and another passenger a 36 year old man from Shelton Conn. were airlifted to the hospital.
Morgan the Connecticut man and another passenger a 43 year old man from Jersey City are listed in critical condition the statement said.
One other passenger in the van who was not identified was treated at the hospital and then released.
Four other vehicles were involved in the crash but none of their occupants were injured the statement said.
Roper s bail has been set at $50 000.
At the time of the accident Morgan and the other van passengers were returning from Delaware where the comedian had appeared in a standup gig at the Dover Downs Hotel Casino.
Morgan first gained prominence as a Saturday Night Live cast member. He also went on to star in the television series 30 Rock.
The prosecutor s office asks that anyone with information about the crash to call the State Police s Detective Bureau in Cranbury at (732) 609 860 9000 ext. 4400.
