Everyone but Rory McIlroy wants to marry Caroline Wozniacki right about now.
The woman may not own the most exciting tennis game in the world but she is indisputably plucky upbeat and now in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. She even laughs when her braid gets caught on her racket.
Wozniacki upset Maria Sharapova on Sunday 6 4 2 6 6 2 knocked yet another favorite from this tournament changed the landscape yet again. Five of the six top seeded women are gone. Wozniacki who plans to run the New York marathon in November crossed the finish line this day in 2 hours 37 minutes.
I deserve to have some chocolate Wozniacki declared right there on the court.
She also asked to be iced though Sharapova had already attempted that tactic to no avail.
Among Sharapova s many distracting court habits some would call them downright annoying is her fondness for taking overlong bathroom breaks between sets. She pulled such a stunt against Madison Keys a few weeks ago and the young American was forced to sit forever on a chair in wait before dissolving in the third set.
On Sunday Sharapova dawdled again. While she stalled during a mandated heat break Wozniacki managed to change her sweat soaked dress and return to the court in plenty of time less than 10 minutes. When Sharapova finally returned to the court chair umpire Marija Cicak nailed her with a time violation warning.
Sharapova argued lost all momentum from the second set and committed 13 unforced errors in the next eight games.

The diva was dethroned. It happens sometimes on a tennis court a little bit of old fashioned karmic justice.
Sharapova had every right to be mad at herself and the world. She s been piling up computer points all spring and summer but this loss may theoretically cost her the No. 1 ranking at the end of the year. She endured that time warning and the entourage in Wozniacki s personal box was impolitely loud whenever Sharapova made an error.
Then the rain waited until she was done with her match failing to halt proceedings. She was in the interview room with reporters when flood warnings sounded on cell phones.
Darn it if I only was out there a little longer Sharapova said. Does the press conference ever get interrupted by flood warnings or lightning
Wozniacki could have stayed out there forever rain or shine chasing balls ripping or floating them back. The match went that way all along Sharapova going for the lines Wozniacki running down those shots returning the favor without flagging a bit. Despite the heat and humidity the marathon woman struck her strokes harder in the third set played more aggressive angles.
I m serving well I m running well I m making the right decisions and I enjoy playing said Wozniacki who will train in Central Park after the Open for the marathon hang in New York and go to some fashion shows. It s a new year and I ve gotten older and hopefully a little wiser.

She s a great retriever especially in these conditions Sharapova said. I felt I went for too much. She s very good about getting balls back. She s better now at what she s done her whole career. She s fit hitting a little deeper on balls up in the air.
So what s wrong with McIlroy Wozniacki didn t want to talk about it again on Sunday and it s none of our business.
Whatever is happening off the court is not really relevant here she said.
Wozniacki is hanging out with girlfriends now running herself into the best shape of her life. What matters is she is playing wonderful tennis without her fianc who is playing wonderful golf without his fianc e.
Maybe everyone should break up with his or her partner concentrate on the things that really matter hitting balls into the wind and running 26.2 miles.
