The Guardian have dubbed it The Great Naked Celebrity Photo Leak of 2014 and whilst the title seems hyperbolous and satirical the events that too place last night on the internet will surely go down in history as one of the biggest examples of invasion of privacy and hacking the world has seen (not the biggest that honour goes to the British newspaper News of the World)
Whilst several big name celebrities were affected including Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence supermodel and The Other Woman star Kate Upton and Disney princess actress and musician Selene Gomez one of Spider Man s very own was also involved. Kirsten Dunst who played Mary Jane Watson in the Sam Raimi Spider Man trilogy was also a victim although comparably she got off rather lightly.
A lot of people are saying the leak started on 4Chan and Reddit however it was posted by an anonymous source and then picked up by 4Chan and Reddit who then blew the whole thing out of the water. Over 100 photos of 21 different female celebrities were leaked and the original hacker/leaker has boasted that there are plenty more where that came from.
Dunst isn t the first Spider Man actress to find herself embroiled in controversy surrounding a nude photo as earlier this year an apparent nude photograph of Amazing Spider Man s Emma Stone was leaked online. However it turned out to be a hoax picture with an Emma Stone lookalike.
Let s hope that Spider Man can locate the culprits and take them out before they do any more damage
