The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says confirmed cases of Enterovirus has risen.
Wisconsin has its first confirmed case of Enterovirus.
MoreThe state said five cases of Enterovirus D 68 have been confirmed in Wisconsin. At least nine samples were sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more than a week ago.
EV D68 is not a reportable illness within the Wisconsin Department of Health Services so testing is done at the national lab.
Jennifer Miller communications specialist with DHS said no reports of paralysis have been noted in the Wisconsin cases.
Over the last few days one patient showed up to the University of Wisconsin hospital with serious symptoms. Clinics in Milwaukee have been busy as well.
We have seen a lot of respiratory illnesses in the outpatient setting said Dr. Paley M.D. at Bayshore Pediatrics with Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
Paley said there are about 100 strains of Enterovirus much like hand foot and mouth disease. Most of the time symptoms are comparable to the common cold.
We don't test for each strain in each and every patient . There is not a cure for it. There is not a medicine for it. So we treat it like we treat everything else Paley said.
Paley suggested parents watch for signs.
If you start to have problems breathing if you're wheezing if you're looking sicker after a few days instead of getting better we need to see you because maybe it is more severe. Maybe it is this virus that we are seeing in other states putting children in the hospital Paley said.
