Review Pitbull was neither the greatest nor the worst in halftime history

Cowboys fans needed a little pick me up at the end of a rough first half against Philadelphia on Thanksgiving. Fortunately the reigning king of party rap stood by on ATT Stadium s sideline dressed in a flashy black suit better fit for a nightclub s VIP area than a football game.

But if you ve paid attention to Pitbull s years long rise to the top of the pop food chain you know that the 33 year old Cuban American rapper doesn t make a habit of dressing down. He also doesn t let his high profile performances get bogged down with overly serious or complex music. He just wants the folks to have fun.

Thursday marked Pitbull s second time performing for the Salvation Army s Red Kettle Campaign kick off show he headlined solo this year after sharing the spotlight with frequent collaborator Enrique Iglesias in 2011. Although there weren t many cutaways to people in the stands watching him do his thing fans on the field seemed to let loose at the sight of his toothy grin and frantic movements.

Upon taking the stage Pitbull first mixed it up with Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to snippets of Celebrate (from latest album Globalization) and Don t Stop the Party. He did a conga line with them to the infectious current single Fireball. He showed a few signs of breathlessness as he segued into the monster hit Timber but regained his gusto when he was joined by ever present singing wingman Ne Yo on both Time of My Life and Give Me Everything.

It was a fast and furious mini set designed to counteract food hangovers and it worked just fine.

The show didn t rank up there with past Thanksgiving halftime highlights such as Kelly Clarkson and Destiny s Child but it certainly didn t invite as many critical cries as Selena Gomez or Creed.

If you want to see the finest musical moment of Thursday s proceedings though look for Jacksonville Texas native Lee Ann Womack s rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. Backed by noted steel guitarist Paul Franklin Womack delivered a beautifully restrained version of the National Anthem.
