USA vs. Germany Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Friendly

Team USA produced another immense comeback against a major side Wednesday fighting back from a 1 0 deficit to defeat Germany 2 1 in a friendly at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne Germany.

Having beaten the Netherlands 4 3 after trailing 3 1 on Friday Bobby Wood once again came up with the winner against the world champions after Mario Gotze gave the hosts an early lead.

A brilliant Mix Diskerud strike late in the first half brought the equaliser and Wood's 87th minute goal saw the USMNT once again celebrating a victory over a European giant the No. 1 ranked team in the world no less. It also marked the USMNT's first ever win on German soil per ESPN.com.

Here are the two lineups that started the match in Cologne per Fox Soccer's Kyle McCarthy

As Bundesliga expert Cristian Nyari noted it was a somewhat experimental lineup from Germany manager Joachim Low as was the USA XI

Really makeshift starting XI for Germany. Only two first choice players start but great to see Herrmann get a deserved debut. GERUSA

The world champions started fast pressing the USA defence and dominating possession in the opposition's half.

The first chance of the match fell to Mesut Ozil when he received the ball from Gotze on the edge of the box but the Arsenal man fired straight at Brad Guzan.

As Fox Soccer Trax noted the USMNT could not get in the game

The pressure paid dividends for the hosts in the 12th minute as debutant Patrick Herrmann beat three players down the right and fed Gotze in space on the left of the area to sweep home.

As DW Sports noted the 24 year old Herrmann made an early case for Man of the Match

Jurgen Klinsmann's side weren't thrown off after conceding early though and began to play their way into the contest although they could not carve out a clear cut chance.

Just after the half hour mark Andre Schurrle could very easily have made it 2 0 as he beat the offside trap to receive the ball from Gotze with just the 'keeper to beat. However the former Chelsea man could only glance a header into Guzan's hands.

Slightly against the run of play USA equalised brilliantly in the 41st minute just as Germany had begun to dominate once more.

Michael Bradley lofted a beautiful cross from the right to Diskerud in space in the box. The New York City FC man controlled well on his chest and fired a scissor kick into the back of the net.

Sebastian Rudy was culpable having left a space on the edge of the box but Diskerud had plenty to do when he received the ball. It was a great goal with quite a buildup as Eurosport UK highlighted

Both sides had chances to take the lead ahead of half time but they eventually went in at the break knotted at one goal apiece.

Klinsmann threw on Kyle Beckerman and Brad Evans for the start of the second half while the Germans brought on Sami Khedira and Koln hero Lukas Podolski.

The visitors looked vastly improved after the break enjoying decent possession in the German half with Gyasi Zardes looking particularly threatening in attack.

Khedira and Gotze both had chances to put the hosts ahead again but it was a much less intense performance from the Germans in the second half.

Captain Bradley should have won it for the U.S. with seven minutes remaining as DeAndre Yedlin found him unmarked on the edge of the box. However Ron Robert Zieler clung gratefully to the ball as Bradley fired it right at him.

Another famous comeback looked to have gone begging for the USA but Wood had other plans.

He received the ball on the edge of the box in the 87th minute turned his marker beautifully and fired a fine left foot finish into the bottom right hand corner.

The visitors saw out the victory and deserve a huge amount of credit for another fantastic performance. Brilliant performers at the 2014 World Cup the USMNT have now done the unthinkable by downing the world's best team.
