Fergie and squad head for Spain after chairmans end of year review

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has today (December 31) issued a New Year s Eve message to the club s fans.

MacAnthony conducted a review of the club s 2014 performance today with the management staff and the players.

No changes in personnel have been announced. Instead manager Darren Ferguson and his players will head to Marbella on Sunday (January 5) for five days warm weather training ahead of their next competitive fixture against Colchester in League One at the ABAX Stadium on January 10.

Ferguson remains under pressure to improve results. MacAnthony has again asked for his side to play attacking energetic football and for them to be back in the thick of the promotion race by the end of January.

Posh are currently 10th in League One two points outside the play off places but if results go against them on Saturday they could be as low as 13th before they meet Colchester.

MacAnthony s message to the fans in full read

Dear Posh fans

I wanted to take this opportunity to pass my thoughts on to you all and thank you for your loyalty and support in what has indeed been a patchy period for the football club form wise during 2014.

The year saw us return to Wembley and take home some silverware it saw us finish 6th and exit the play offs far earlier then we anticipated. It then saw us having to undergo a minor rebuild during the summer with many players departing and the arrival of Alnwick Smith Burgess Maddison Oztumer Taylor Beautyman Luke James to name but a few.

Patience was a key word used by me in the summer as we went about rebuilding a squad that we felt would in time grow into an exciting young unit full of pace endeavour and goals that would as time went by become a Posh side that would bring us a prolonged period of success.

2014 saw us top the league early on but at the same time it has seen us suffer a catastrophic run of injuries/illnesses to 90% of our playing squad from August through to December only allowing us to play the same eleven for one and a half games thus far in the current campaign which though not an excuse for our unacceptable run of form it has not helped our cause nor our aspirations to mount a serious promotion challenge.

2014 has seen a new stand open at London Road record breaking commercial deals in place thanks to new sponsorship deals and has seen a transformation in our training facilities which are now on a par with many top Championship clubs.

2014 has seen our youth set up under Dave Robertson go from strength to strength which will see many more youth team players progress through into the first team squad. 2014 has also seen a serious amount of discontent amongst our own supporters has seen a change in attitude towards our football management team from the terraces and many calls for a change. The harsh reality and facts in football is that you very often are only as good as your last few results and history never really allows you to rest on your laurels. The other harsh reality is that regardless of injuries and certain circumstances the management team will be the first to admit that results recently and overall in 2014 start to finish have been way under the standard expected by myself and the supporters not to mention the standard of football at times particularly at home has indeed fallen way short of what we all come to expect.

Statistics show that we finished 2014 with a losing percentage as opposed to a winning percentage and that doesn t and never will sit well with me. The players will also be the first to admit the past year and indeed the last 10 games haven t been their finest as they set their own standards and our captain Jack Payne and his team mates now have a new year and 23 league games to put many wrongs right on the football field.

Our management team are a hard working bunch who only want what s best for the football club and our squad of young players are no different and nobody could question their loyalty work ethic or commitment. Changing the manager of the football club is actually a really easy decision to make as shown by majority of clubs who do it but contrary to what some supporters think financial aspect of it never comes into play for me as I must always do what s best for the long term health of the football club. This isn t some form of vote of confidence in Darren Ferguson from me he gets consistently all the support he needs from me on a daily basis this is your chairman giving his thoughts on 2014 as a whole.

I met with the management team and playing squad today (New Years Eve) and very simply reiterated what I and our supporters want to see in 2015 which is a healthy energetic high pressing style of football with plenty of goals that sees a consistent run of results that give us a chance to win promotion from League 1 this season. They all appreciate that January is now a key month results wise and that by the end of January we as a club need to be back in the promotion race one way or another and putting a smile back on the faces of our wonderful supporters.

I will be taking the squad and the management team to Marbella this Sunday for five days for a training camp where they can train intensively in good weather as opposed to here in the UK get their mindsets right and come back hopefully fully invigorated for the promotion challenge our clubs seeks over the final 23 games of the season.

I hope to see thousands of you at London Road for our next home fixture but for now let me take this opportunity to wish you all a prosperous healthy and successful New Year in 2015. Thank you for the continued support as it s what drives me on every day to better our football club.

Keep It Posh

Trevone Boykin TCU crush Ole Miss in Peach Bowl

Mike Stewart / Associated Press Trevone Boykin threw three touchdown passes to lead TCU to victory in the Peach Bowl.

TCU was ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff selection committee's final rankings but it made a case that it belonged in the four team playoff by hammering No. 9 Mississippi 42 3 in Wednesday's Peach Bowl.

Predicting winners for every CFB bowl game

The Horned Frogs (12 1) were No. 3 in the penultimate College Football Playoff selection committee top 25 but dropped to sixth in the final rankings. The Horned Frogs took out their frustrations on the Rebels (9 4) flexing their muscles from start to finish.

TCU is known for its high powered offense but its defense was the key Wednesday holding Ole Miss to 129 total yards. Senior linebacker Paul Dawson who has been overlooked for most of the season played well for a unit that was dominant. Ole Miss rushed for 9 yards on 37 carries and was 3 of 15 on third down. TCU uses a 4 2 5 defensive alignment and its front six overwhelmed Ole Miss' sketchy offensive line. The Horned Frogs had five sacks and seemingly were in Rebels quarterback Bo Wallace's face on every pass attempt.

Dawson (6 foot 2 230 pounds) and fellow starting linebacker Marcus Mallet (6 1 227) are undersized seniors but both showed off their quickness and sideline to sideline ability Wednesday. Mallet led TCU with 10 tackles and he added a tackle for loss and a forced fumble which he recovered. Dawson who is underrated nationally despite being named the Big 12 defensive player of the year had eight tackles and a sack and also proved to be a pest in pass coverage. NFL Media analysts are high on Dawson He's always been known as more of a run and chase linebacker and he's doing an even better job of playing in space now. He's become a very intriguing prospect.

TCU junior quarterback Trevone Boykin who should be a leading Heisman contender next season threw three touchdown passes and also rushed for 65 yards. He was 22 of 31 but most of his completions were for short gains as he threw for 188 yards. He also threw three interceptions. But his escapability and ability to find secondary receivers confounded Ole Miss' highly ranked defense.

Tracking underclassmen intentions for 2015 NFL Draft

Still he can become a more refined passer and another season working with co coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meacham should help his pro prospects. Cumbie and Meacham were in their first seasons at TCU and their work with Boykin and the offense was noteworthy.

Share tips for 2015 will fashion flourish will airlines fly

The word volatile could have been coined to describe the stock market in 2014. Early in the year we were dusting off the record books as the FTSE 100 supported by central banks keeping the money taps turned on to boost flagging economies came within 52 points of the peak achieved in December 1999 at the time of the dotcom boom.

But the London index weighed down as it is with commodity companies dependent on global growth and energy companies affected by the oil price never did hit that peak as fears of a slowdown grew during the year. The strength of sterling hitting companies overseas earnings was another factor holding it back.

Other markets with more varied constituents notably America s SP 500 and Germany s Dax continued to set new records and defy bad news. Even so as the year progressed that bad news seemed to mount up. Central banks started cutting back their support entirely in the case of the US Federal Reserve s bond buying programme and talk of interest rate rises began to be heard. On top of that there were doubts over the Chinese economy the eurozone crisis re emerged with political upheaval in Greece while investors also had to contend with a plunge in the oil price and a rouble crisis in Russia all of which combined to send UK shares to new lows for the year in December.

With a late albeit unconvincing Christmas rally the FTSE 100 closed at 6566.09 still down 2.7% on the year its first annual loss since 2011. And for the first time since 2002 the index failed to gain ground during December.

So what of our tips for 2014 With the FTSE 100 in decline we managed a very creditable 2.3% gain on the year.

It was the US that really did us proud with Apple and the US medical equipment firm Stryker striding ahead and outperforming even a buoyant Dow Jones industrial average and SP 500.

America was also helpful for another good performer the building materials group Wolseley which does a large chunk of its business across the Atlantic.

Budget airline Flybe had a late run benefiting from cheaper fuel costs in the wake of the oil price decline while the recruitment group Hays did well in its key areas of Britain Australia and Germany.

But there were some less successful picks notably Salamander Energy which fell back after disappointing exploration results in south east Asia. This left it open to an opportunistic low priced bid which Ophir Energy seems to have won after Spanish rival Cepsa pulled out of the running.

Sportech was also a bad bet which fell foul of a poor performance in its US racing business and a ruling it had to repay 93m to HMRC relating to a VAT dispute on Spot the Ball games. It plans to appeal.

As a reminder the 12 month period we use for these tips is an arbitrary time period for tracking a share price. In the real world investors would be likely to cash in any gains or take any losses at different times of the year rather than wait until 31 December. With that in mind here are our picks for 2015 which range from FTSE 100 stalwarts to a few lesser known businesses with growth potential.

City analysts spend all year feeding numbers into spreadsheets and routinely fail to outperform the market. So if all that effort struggles to unearth winners maybe humble retail investors are better served trying a different approach. On that basis the pub group JD Wetherspoon now 820p might get the nod in 2015. Not on the basis of a rigorous analysis of its business although it plans 200 new pubs including an ambitious expansion in Ireland but purely as a punt on its chairman and founder Tim Martin. He knows the trade backwards and more pleasingly he can t stand financiers (the feeling is mutual). That doesn t mean the shares will go up every year but simply backing Martin probably gives you as good a chance of a profit as siding with the pros.

Juliette Garside

CityFibre listed on Aim in January 2014. The pint sized infrastructure company has a big ambition building fibre optics into commercial and residential areas underserved by BT s superfast network. It also has big allies Sky and TalkTalk are funding fibre to the home pilot in York. If it proves economical the plan is to extend the scheme to Britain s 50 or so second tier cities. With Vodafone waiting in the wings to join the scheme CityFibre could be heading for rapid expansion. The shares listed at 60p have risen to more than 80p so the current 63p price is a buying opportunity.

Sean Farrell

BM European s shares haven t caught fire since July s flotation and sit at 285p. But 2015 could be the year the discount general retailer demonstrates its worth. Like Aldi and Lidl BM has gained from squeezed household budgets and the rise of bargain hunting. The Liverpool based group has about 400 stores but hardly any in the south of England. It has ambitious plans to put that right through a new store programme that is ahead of schedule. BM chaired by former Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy is also expanding in Germany home to some of Europe s most frugal shoppers.

Terry Macalister

Anyone looking for an investment with a clear conscience could support the appropriately named Good Energy. The Wiltshire based firm which generates all its electricity from renewables has seen a surge in retail customers who have been leaving the big six suppliers. Good Energy profits more than doubled last year and yet the business remains relatively small with plenty of scope for growth. The share price doubled in value in 2103 but has tumbled since alongside falling oil and other energy prices. At their current level of 211p there should be scope for a rebound.

Julia Kollewe

AstraZeneca has had an exciting year the UK pharmaceutical firm successfully fought off Pfizer s advances in May and spent the rest of the year under the shadow of a potential new bid which never materialised. AstraZeneca boss Pascal Soriot trumpeted the company s drug pipeline and was able to boast of some early successes. While his long term goals look ambitious the firm looks completely different than two years ago according to Morgan Stanley. Some of this is already in the share price now 4555.5p but we reckon the stock has further to go.

Gwyn Topham

How much higher can airlines stock climb EasyJet Ryanair and International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) the parent company of British Airways are trading at two or three times their value from two years ago. All will be further boosted by the sudden drop in fuel prices the biggest fixed cost that has cut margins in the last few years. While investors show signs of believing easyJet s price has peaked IAG at 486.1p could still go up. The apparent newfound stability at Iberia steady profits at BA the addition of Vueling as well as the potential acquisition of Aer Lingus to secure more lucrative transatlantic business give the group a solid look and have quietened for now the sceptics of the consolidation strategy.

Zoe Wood

AO World arrived on the stock exchange with a bang in February. But that first day pop when the shares rocketed 45% above its 285p debut was shortlived and the stock now treads water below the float price at 280.2p. The air may have leaked out of internet stocks but ao.com still offers a slice of some interesting retail action. It has slick logistics and the scope to expand from its mainstay of white goods into TVs and beyond. It also has ambition by the truckload thanks to driven founder John Roberts with the recent push into Germany appearing well thought through.

Sarah Butler

The hot summer was a boon for fashion retailers but they have suffered as the balmy temperatures continued into the autumn and winter hitting sales in a much more significant trading period. With that in mind tipping a fashion retailer may seem unwise. Discounts on coats and knitwear are everywhere and few will escape unscathed. But Boohoo which joined the junior Aim market this summer has all the hallmarks of a business which can outshine its peers.

Boohoo is a fairly young business with plenty of opportunity to expand in the UK as well as abroad. The share price has suffered by association with online fashion store Asos which has suffered from an array of problems some of which were self generated. Boohoo will have to deal with the impact of the rising value of the pound on its overseas business but its shares are still loitering well below its float price at 39.5p. That seems like an oversight as we head towards potentially easier times for UK consumers.

Jill Treanor

Aviva had a rocky end to 2014. It secured a deal which made it the biggest insurance savings and asset management company in Britain by buying Friends Life but in the process dented its own stock market value with its shares now at 484.5p. There are lots of reasons to be cautious about the share market in 2015 the general election leaves many sectors vulnerable. George Osborne sent shockwaves through the insurance sector in 2014 with plans to overhaul the pensions market and no longer make it compulsory to buy an annuity.

With the proviso that the insurance market could again become the focus for politicians Aviva may recover lost ground if investors conclude that the Friends deal is not as awful as it first appeared and have confidence that the enlarged insurer will be able ratchet up its dividend payouts.

Nick Fletcher

Software Radio Technology supplies technology and products to track marine vessels around the globe using the International Marine Organisation s AIS standard. It has about 95% of this market and part of its growth has come from governments mandating ship owners to use tracking equipment.

A key market will be the US and the country s coastguard is due to publish a final ruling on using AIS in January which means more than 40 000 boats would be required to install new equipment within a few months. This could be worth $35m ( 23m) in revenues to a business that has annual sales of around 6m. With other projects under way including tracking national fishing fleets in Malaysia and India and further out Russia and South America SRT should see a less lumpy ordering pattern in future.

The shares at 30.87p have shown a recent rise in anticipation of the US ruling but could have further to go.

Jenny McCarthy Husband Donnie Wahlberg Share Midnight Kiss On New ...

(Instagram)

Jenny McCarthy used to ring in the New Year by kissing a stranger from the crowd in Times Square. Now she s a married woman and that probably wouldn t sit well with her husband Donnie Wahlberg who s standing by as she co hosts Dick Clark s New Year s Rockin Eve With Ryan Seacrest. McCarthy has dished about her NKOTB hubby throughout the night and has stated that he is the man she will lock lips with at midnight. And the two shared a passionate kiss together celebrating the first time they met. The two met in Times Square when Wahlberg was performing with the New Kids On The Block.

Even though McCarthy will not be smooching any strangers she is setting up two strangers from the crowd to share a midnight kiss. The two people will not see each other until the big pucker and McCarthy is excited to play matchmaker for the night.

Uber prices to surge again this New Years Eve

New Year s Eve the day to overpay for everything including that ride home from Uber.

The ride hailing app expects this New Year s Eve to be its busiest night ever. Because of high demand and because it can Uber expects surge pricing will come into effect a boon to its drivers but a bane to passengers. Fares can increase sevenfold or more during the busiest time of the night which Uber says will be between 12 30 a.m. and 2 30 a.m.

To avoid spiking fares Uber suggests booking a ride right after the ball drops at midnight or wait until after 2 30 a.m. The app will notify users in advance if surge pricing is in effect and full price estimates are given before requesting a ride.

Riders might also consider using the SurgeProtector app which offers users walking directions to low or no surge zones. It s currently only available for iPhone users but it s sometimes the case that zones where surge pricing is in effect are very concentrated.

Around 4 30 p.m. surge pricing had not gone into effect in many parts of Boston that will be highly trafficked later this evening. A trip from Harvard St. and Commonwealth Ave. in Allston to the bars along Boylston Street would cost a user $7 to $10 on the low cost UberX service while a longer trip from Davis Square to the Seaport District would cost $16 to $21 according to the Uber app.

In addition to partying at home taking public transportation or a cab however there are other options for revelers who for whatever reason think better of driving on New Year s Eve.

Riders who use rival Lyft also will see a version of Uber s price surge called Prime Time. The feature is turned on when ride requests greatly outnumber available drivers. How much extra you'll pay Lyft says depends on demand. To check the rates tap the Prime Time icon on the bottom right side of the app s home screen.

Both Uber and Lyft are donating a portion of their New Year s haul to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Uber will donate $1 from every ride when users enter the promotional code MADDNYE on booking a ride. Lyft will donate $1 for everyone who makes a pledge to get home safe by visiting Lyft.com/NYE.

The Globe is tracking price surges on New Year s Eve. Please tweet your location and the price quoted for your ride with the hashtag bostonsurge.

PHOTOS New Year 2015 begins around the world

As Floridians counted down to the New Year some folks on the other side of the world already rang in 2015.

Samoa and the Line Islands in the Pacific are among the first places on Earth to welcome the New Year. When the clock strikes midnight there (UTC 14) it's only 5 a.m. EST on the Florida Peninsula (UTC 5).

UTC stands for Universal Time Coordinated the world's current time standard said to be a more precise successor to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). At midnight UTC 0 on New Year's Eve it is 6 p.m. on the Florida Peninsula.

Interestingly 5 a.m. is also midnight in Hawaii (UTC 10) which is a full 24 hour day behind Samoa and the Line Islands. Like many time zone lines the International Date Line is not perfectly straight from north to south and cuts eastward around the latter two islands.

As folks gather to say goodbye to a trying year even festivities were not without tragedy.

Thirty five people have been killed in a stampede during New Year's celebrations in downtown Shanghai China's state run Xinhua News Agency reported.

The report early Thursday cites the Shanghai government in saying that another 42 people were injured amid the chaos about a half hour before midnight.

The deaths and injuries occurred at Shanghai's popular riverfront Bund area which can be jammed with spectators for major events.

Last week the English language Shanghai Daily reported that the annual New Year's Eve countdown on the Bund that normally attracts about 300 000 people had been cancelled apparently because of crowd control issues.

_____________________________ New Year's parties around the world

Across the globe revelers looking for a respite from 2014 will converge on the beaches of Brazil the shores of Sydney harbor and the potentially snowy streets of Las Vegas (yes really) to welcome 2015. Here's a look at the world is celebrating

FIRST UP DOWN UNDER

Sydney takes pride in being one of the first major cities in the world to welcome each new year and it plans to greet 2015 in its trademark glittery fashion with a tropical style fireworks display featuring shimmering gold and silver palm tree pyrotechnic effects.

More than 1.5 million revelers are expected to crowd along the shores of the city's famed harbor to watch the vivid eruption of light over the Harbour Bridge Opera House and other points along the water.

The festivities however come just two weeks after an Iranian born self styled cleric took 18 people hostage inside a downtown cafe. A tribute to two hostages killed in the siege will be displayed on the pylons of the Harbour Bridge during the fireworks display and an extra 3 000 police officers will be patrolling the city. Still Sydneysiders are being encouraged to celebrate as usual.

In New Zealand a giant clock on Auckland's landmark Sky Tower structure will count down the minutes until the New Year with a huge fireworks display launching from the tower at midnight. The capital Wellington will host a family friendly celebration in a park featuring orchestra music and iconic movie clips culminating in a fireworks display.

AT THE COPA ... COPACABANA

More than 1 million people are expected to flock to the golden sands of Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach where two dozen artists and DJs will perform on three stages. Tourists and locals routinely party until dawn on the beach staying awake to watch the tropical sun rise for the first time in 2015.

A massive fireworks display blasted from boats in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean will light the sky over the crowd which traditionally dresses in all white a Brazilian New Year tradition to bring purification and a peaceful year. Another tradition calls for partygoers to enter the sea up to their knees and jump over seven waves shortly after the New Year begins for luck.

WATCHING THE BALL OR WHATEVER DROP

New York will drop its Waterford crystal ball at midnight in a tradition being increasingly copied across the United States with twists celebrating local icons. Las Cruces New Mexico is spicing up New Year's Eve with its first chili drop. In Miami a 10 meter (35 foot) neon orange will light up while Atlanta and Nashville Tennessee will drop a peach and a musical note respectively.

Flagstaff Arizona celebrates with a 2 meter (6 foot) pine cone that drops from a downtown hotel. Nearby Prescott drops a 2 meter (6 foot) spurred cowboy boot in a nod to its western culture.

On Lake Erie in Port Clinton Ohio the community will carry on its tradition of dropping a 270 kilogram (600 pound) walleye made of wood and fiberglass. Michigan's Upper Peninsula will ring in 2015 with a nod to its mining history with a replica of a pasty (pronounced PAS' tee) a baked pastry filled with meat and potatoes to drop in Escanaba one of the remote region's largest cities. The meal was popular by miners who immigrated to Michigan decades ago.

Amid the celebration some cities are on alert for New Year's Eve protests related to recent police killings of unarmed black men. Boston's mayor and police commissioner urged activists to hold off on a planned die in. No plans for major protests were announced in New York where the police department is still mourning two officers shot to death in a patrol car. But security will be tight with more personnel than usual.

SNOW IN SIN CITY WHAT ARE THE ODDS

Las Vegas isn't a place that expects snow no less on New Year's Eve. So with meteorologists at the National Weather Service saying there's a chance that flurries might fall on the gambling capital's Strip and the hundreds of thousands of revelers ringing in the New Year the agency warned visitors dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes it's going to be a cold night.

Organizers of the fireworks display say the show will go on with or without snow. Forecasts in Las Vegas pin the area's chances for New Year's Eve snow at 70 percent along with a 0 degree Celsius (32 degree Fahrenheit) low. But for that to happen meteorologist Chris Stachelski says there needs to be moisture in the air and that's far from a certainty for the Strip.

Kaley Cuoco Doesnt Consider Herself A Feminist

Don't call Kaley Cuoco a feminist.

The Big Bang Theory star spoke about equality in an interview with Redbook for the magazine's February 2015 issue. When asked if she considers herself a feminist she responded in the negative.

Is it bad if I say no she asked. It's not really something I think about. Things are different now and I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around ... I was never that feminist girl demanding equality but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality.

She then went on to discuss the gender roles in her household with husband Ryan Sweeting whom she married in a surprise ceremony on New Year's Eve last year after a whirlwind romance.

I cook for Ryan five nights a week It makes me feel like a housewife I love that. I know it sounds old fashioned but I like the idea of women taking care of their men. I'm so in control of my work that I like coming home and serving him. My mom was like that so I think it kind of rubbed off.

As far as empowerment goes the 29 year old opened up about how getting breast implants in 2004 gave her a boost of confidence.

I had no boobs she said. And it really was the best thing ever I always felt ill proportioned. My implants made me feel more confident in my body. It wasn't about trying to be a porn star or wanting to look hot and sexy.

Robin Williams Art Show and Celebration to Hit San Francisco This Saturday

click to enlarge One of the pieces featured in the show. Christopher Paddock We probably all remember where we were when we heard of Robin Williams passing. From Williams more lighthearted roles such as Mrs. Doubtfire and the voice of the Genie in Aladdin to his more serious roles like those in Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society Williams was one of the most versatile actors of his time.

This Saturday San Franciscans will get the chance to honor Williams and celebrate his films and the impression they left.

Ezra Croft the mastermind behind the Nic Cage art show last February and the Christopher Walken art show last month is hosting another art show this time dedicated to all things Robin Williams.

The show will feature artistic depictions of Williams as well as stories from people who had an interaction with Williams that they want to share burlesque and circus performances live music and sets from stand up comedians Kate Willett Kurt Weitzmann and Johan Miranda.

Croft says he's been wanting to do a show honoring Williams for a while but wanted to wait roughly six months after his passing in order to be respectful.

We didn t want to capitalize on the immediency of his death Croft says. I have really weird mixed emotions about the show . It s a sad situation.

Croft adds that the show is going to focus more on celebrating and less on mourning.

We are going to approach it with a really celebratory kind of attitude Croft says. Williams is a Bay Area icon someone who made people laugh in so many movies.

The show will be hosted by Jamie DeWolf the host and creator of the Oakland based performance art show Tourettes Without Regrets.

The show is to celebrate who Williams was and his art and also the community behind it the inspiration he gave so many people and to continue with that spirit DeWolf says. It s a celebration of his irrepressible sense of humor.

A large amount of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Oakland Children s Hospital.

If you have any stories about personal Robin Williams encounters you d like to share or Williams themed art you d like to have in the show please contact Ezra at ejc.artshows gmail.com. Story and art submissions will be accepted up until the day of the show.

I don t think it s going to be depressing show DeWolf adds. It s going to be an awesome show. I think it s going to be as wacky as Williams would want.

The show will be held this Saturday January 3 at Public Works from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Admission will be $10 before 9 30 p.m. and $15 after. Visit the event page on Facebook for more info about the show.

U of L falls to UGA in Belk Bowl 37 14

Louisville's Brandon Radcliff looks for running room in the first half during the 2014 Belk Bowl in Charlotte North Carolina Tuesday evening. Dec. 30 2014 By Matt Stone/The Courier Journal

CHARLOTTE N.C. Something was wrong Tuesday night and Keith Kelsey noticed.

The University of Louisville football team had packed its nine wins and its heralded defense and its us against the world mentality and traveled to Charlotte to the 2014 Belk Bowl against the University of Georgia.

But when the 20th ranked Cardinals took the field here at Bank of America Stadium things that had come so naturally to them all season somehow seemed harder.

They dropped interceptions. They jumped offside on a critical fourth down play. They couldn't get their substitutions into the game at the right times.

Petrino talks about the Cardinal's 37 14 loss to Georgia his first bowl game since returning to Louisville. Video by Matt Stone The Courier Journal

The tumbles led to a 37 14 thumping at the hands of UGA Louisville's most lopsided loss since Oct. 24 2009.

Those are plays we'd usually been making all year said Kelsey a linebacker who was Louisville's second leading tackler this season.

We just let them off the hook.

It didn't help that Georgia (10 3) had freshman running back Nick Chubb whose 266 rushing yards set a bowl game record for UGA and made it awfully tough for U of L to get any traction after tying the game at 7 7 in the first quarter.

Chubb took 33 carries and averaged 8.1 yards per attempt bullying his way to two touchdowns and setting another record with a Belk Bowl best 82 yard run in the third quarter that set up Sony Michel's 2 yard scoring sprint.

MORE Mauldin adds another forced fumble

His rushing total surpassed that of every team Louisville faced this season and he alone was responsible for the most rushing yards allowed by U of L since a 2012 loss at Syracuse.

Nick Chubb is a good running back Louisville linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin said. He likes to break tackles and get yardage after contact. He reminds me of (Miami running back) Duke Johnson.

But like Kelsey said U of L (9 4) just seemed off on Tuesday night. The Cards held Johnson to 90 yards in the season opener and 45 of Johnson's yards came from two runs. Louisville did a bunch of simple things to keep Johnson in check shedding blocks and corralling him toward the middle of the field.

Louisville LB Keith Kelsey We let Georgia off the hook

They had no such luck against Chubb.

He's hard to tackle and he's got great vision U of L coach Bobby Petrino said. There were a number of times where we had guys there to make the play and he just made them miss or ran over them. It was a tremendous performance by him.

As Chubb ran wild Louisville's offense couldn't stay on the field for sustained stretches.

The Cardinals scored on their second drive of the game marching through 84 yards in nine plays. Surprise starting quarterback Kyle Bolin whistled a perfectly placed 11 yard touchdown pass to Gerald Christian in the back of the end zone.

From there Louisville's drive chart looked like an offensive coach's worst nightmare Punt punt interception turnover on downs punt interception punt touchdown interception punt.

We never really got any consistency and we weren't able to get into a rhythm Petrino said.

Perhaps some of Louisville's rhythmic challenges came from a predetermined coaching decision to insert freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon into the game for U of L's fourth and fifth series.

Bolin's first time out didn't go so well he was 1 for 3 for three yards. But his second drive the one capped by the Christian touchdown seemed to give the redshirt freshman some mojo. He was 4 of 5 for 58 yards and even though Louisville punted on its next possession Bolin said he'd begun to feel comfortable.

Sometimes it hurts coming out and getting cold but Reggie's a great player and he deserved to go in there and get an opportunity to play Bolin said.

Petrino said both quarterbacks knew the plan coming into the game and should've been prepared for the swap. But Bonnafon was just 1 for 3 for 14 yards and an interception and Bolin never rediscovered his moxie.

Video Georgia Coach Mark Richt on win over Louisville

It just didn't work out the way we would have liked to see have seen it Petrino said.

Looking at the postgame box score it's fair to think Louisville could've won Tuesday's bowl game had it avoided all those miscues.

Star wideout DeVante Parker had eight catches for 120 yards. Running back Brandon Radcliff hustled his way to 89 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Even Bolin who'd only played two and a half quarters all season threw for 300 yards and a touchdown.

But three interceptions between Bolin and Bonnafon plus two dropped interceptions and seven painful penalties from the defense did the Cardinals in.

Last SlideNext Slide

They'd come here to Charlotte hoping to unravel another brand name opponent in a bowl game. They'd already stunned Florida in the Sugar Bowl and bulldozed Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl in the past seasons.

They weren't perfect in either of those games and they didn't have to be here at the Belk Bowl but they limited mistakes and made big plays to separate themselves from their opponents.

Georgia was the team that did all those things on Tuesday. The Bulldogs had 15 plays go for 10 or more yards. They converted 12 of their 18 third down conversion attempts and they won the turnover battle.

They did everything Louisville expected to do. They did everything Louisville had (mostly) done in its nine wins this season.

And they left Charlotte with a 23 point win over a stunned U of L team that must regroup after graduating some of the successful players in program history.

We should've never gone down like that Radcliff said. This whole offseason this'll motivate the team. If not there's something wrong with you.
