THERE IS an art not only to creating Google s home page Doodles but also to choosing the illustrator whose skills pair most perfectly with the assignment.

Today marks the 126th anniversary since the public opening of the Eiffel Tower that iconic iron structure that has come to symbolize not just the from the ground construction of a revolution but also the architecture of the heart.

But whom to tap to capture that certain aesthetic je ne sais quoi about the most popular ticketed monument in the world Google s inspired freelance hires have ranged from Eleanor Davis to Michael Lipman and Team Google Doodle leader Ryan Germick stays plugged in to the world of illustration comic art and animation.

Fortunately for today s salute to the Parisian landmark opened in 1889 as the centerpiece for the World s Fair upon the centennial of the French Revolution Google chose to reach out to artist Floriane Marchix.

Marchix has a gift with rendering depth and texture and for conveying a sense of both the solidity of man made structures and the looseness of Man.

And though you may not recognize Marchix s style you may well be familiar with Floriane s flair if you re a fan of beautiful animation.

As a visual development artist Marchix ramped up the resume in 2011 by working on the lushly animated The Rabbi s Cat (Le chat du rabbin) the film based on Joann Sfar s comic that won the Cesar Award (France s national film honor) for Best Animated Picture.

From there Marchix vaulted into working for DreamWorks Animation on last year s Annie Award nominated Penguins of Madagascar as both visual development artist and conceptual designer and is aboard the studio s visual development team for a pair of sequels 2017 s The Croods 2 and 2018 s latest Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots 2 Nine Lives 40 Thieves.

Survey some of Marchix s work on Penguins of Madagascar and you can detect some of the trademark touches that grace today s Doodle. Marchix knows how to guide your eye with inviting looping lines that run counter to mountainous mass a dance of contrasts that engages the eye. And whether depicting marine life or the human form the French artist has a visual whimsy enhanced by an eye popping palette.

After seeing Marchix s portfolio it s easy to spot that style in the Doodle that pays tribute to the masterwork of civil engineer Gustave Eiffel that magician of iron.

The first principle of architectural beauty Eiffel himself said is that the essential lines of a construction be determined by a perfect appropriateness to its use.

Rolling Stones tour to stop in Raleigh on July 1

The Rolling Stones are on their way back to the Triangle and will play Raleigh s Carter Finley Stadium on July 1. Tickets will go on sale April 13.

The announcement Tuesday capped weeks of rumors about this summer s North American leg of the Stones tour to mark their 50 year anniversary. Columbus Ohio Minneapolis Dallas Atlanta Orlando Fla. Nashville Tenn. Pittsburgh Milwaukee Kansas City Mo. Indianapolis Detroit and Buffalo N.Y. are among the other shows on this summer s schedule.

At a gathering at Carter Finley on Tuesday to announce the tour stop the Jumbotron video played with tour highlights from over the years accompanied by It s Only Rock Roll. A special N.C. State Wolfpack/Rolling Stones logo was also unveiled.

Tickets which go on sale starting at 10 a.m. April 13 will be available through TicketMaster.com RollingStones.com and PNC Arena box office. Pre sale for American Express cardholders begins on Wednesday April 8 at 10 a.m. The price range is $59.50 $350.

The Stones 50 year trek has played all over the world since 2012. According to figures from Billboard magazine its 48 shows have sold almost 1.2 million tickets and grossed more than $291 million.

The Carter Finley show will be the Stones first in the Triangle in nearly a decade since an October 2005 show at Duke University s Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham. This will be the fourth time The Stones have played Raleigh. They previously played at Reynolds Coliseum on N.C. State s campus in 1965 then at Carter Finley in 1989 and 1994.

They love playing the stadium here which is why we wanted to bring them back said Allen Corbett VP of AEG Carolinas.

This will be Carter Finley s first rock concert since U2 in 2009. There was an epic traffic jam at that show.

State Offices Closed In Observation Of Cesar Chavez Day

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) State offices including the Department of Motor Vehicles and Los Angeles Superior Courts are closed Monday to observe Cesar Chavez Day.

Federal offices and services including the U.S. Postal Service will be open.

A state holiday honoring the late labor leader was signed into law in 2000 by then Gov. Gray Davis. Chavez is credited with improving work and quality of life conditions for immigrant farm workers in central California.

Chavez an advocate of nonviolence is remembered for spearheading a grape boycott in 1965 that went nationwide in 1968 and lasted until 1978 resulting in higher wages for farm workers and focusing national attention on their plight.

Born March 31 1927 in Yuma Arizona Chavez dropped out of school after the eighth grade to help support his family by joining them in the fields as a migrant farm worker witnessing the many adversities migrant workers faced daily.

Chavez joined the Latino civil rights Community Service Organization in 1952 urging Latinos to register to vote. In 1962 Chavez joined Dolores Huerta in co founding the National Farm Workers Association which later became the United Farm Workers.

Chavez and the UFW were instrumental in the passage of the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act in 1975 which made California the first state to give farm workers the right to seek union representation and bargain collectively.

Chavez died in 1993 at the age of 66.

In 2011 President Barack Obama proclaimed March 31 of each year as Cesar Chavez Day nationally although it is not a federal holiday.

In this year s proclamation Obama recalled that after Chavez fought for higher wages he pushed for fresh drinking water workers compensation pension plans and protection from pesticides. He strove every day for the America he knew was possible.

Celebrity contestants in Dancing With the Stars work closely with their pro dance partners to perfect a routine to propel them to another round in the competition. Indeed teamwork closeness and hours of daily practice are needed to evoke the corresponding emotion necessary for each dance. It is not unusual therefore when partners in the dancing show are rumored to be dating. And this early in season 20 businessman Robert Herjavec and pro dancer Kym Johnson are already the target of dating rumors.

Since Shark Tank's Herjavec is technically romantically available having been separated from his wife since 2014 his partnership with Johnson is speculated to go beyond the dance floor fueled by sightings of the dancing pair outside of rehearsals.

Daily Mail spotted the dance partners headed to Craig's to eat presumably to celebrate survival from the elimination round and to enjoy each other's company and media outlets immediately went abuzz. The rumor got stronger when E News released a report saying that the two are dating with a source reportedly telling the publication that the 51 year old Herjavec and 38 year old Johnson were all over each other and looked really happy together.

However the two continue to brush off and ignore the rumors. In a pre performance interview they were asked about their relationship.

Herjavec said I love hanging out with Kym. She's a lot of fun to be with.

As for Johnson she said We're too busy dancing aren't we

Elsewhere DWTS pro dancer and friend Derek Hough is quite excited about the rumors telling Fox411 Man I'm all for it if it's true

Hough then added Literally when Kym describes a man she's looking for it's him. I hear 'I need this guy I need a guy like this a guy like this ' I'm like 'Yo That's him Herjavec .

Chris Perez Love of Selena's fans inspiring

CORPUS CHRISTI After the sudden tragic end to their three year marriage in 1995 Chris Perez said he withdrew mourning Selena's death.

My initial kind of way of dealing with this was to stay away from it and not talk about it too much Perez said.

The iconic Queen of Tejano was shot to death 20 years ago in a Corpus Christi motel room by Yolanda Saldivar described by some as the obsessed president of Selena's fan club now serving a life sentence.

A guitarist with Selena y Los Dinos and now a musician in his own right Perez said he eventually realized the importance of furthering Selena's legacy.

He even published a book in 2012 about their life together.

It went from something that I tried to downplay to something I've gotten comfortable with Perez said.

He said To be able to go out there and talk about it and see the love that the fans have 20 years later is inspiring.

Perez said he will have that opportunity April 17 18 during the first annual Fiesta de la Flor a musical and cultural celebration of Selena's life.

Fiesta De La Flor will be held at the North Bayfront Park in downtown Corpus Christi. Gates open at 5 30 p.m. on Friday April 17 and 10 a.m. on Saturday April 18.

Perez will be among Grammy and Latin Grammy award winners along with popular regional bands performing during the two day event.

Perez said he wants to be in all that love we are feeling for that one person the late Selena Quintanilla Perez.

Who is Trevor Noah Daily Show fans will soon find out

(CNN)You may not know it but comedian Trevor Noah actually made a bit of history even before being named to succeed Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show.

The 31 year old South African comic has made only a few appearances on that show since popping up as a correspondent in December but he's better known within the world of standup comedy.

In 2013 Noah became the first African comedian to perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

He's been on the cover of Rolling Stone in South Africa where he's extremely popular. He's joked about being the son of a black African woman and a white Swiss man who met when interracial relationships were illegal in South Africa.

My mom would be arrested. She would be fined and still she was like 'ooh I don't care I want a white man ooh ' he once told an audience at London's Soho Theater during his standup show The Racist. And my dad was also like well you know how the Swiss love chocolate.

Why mixed race comic was 'born a crime'

Race identity and ethnicity have figured in prominently in his act.

Because of his parents' then illegal relationship he joked In the streets my father couldn't walk with us. He would walk on the other side of the road and wave at me like a creepy pedophile. And my mom could walk with me but every time the police went by she would drop me. I felt like a bag of weed.

Noah has said in his act that he lost touch with his father for several years because of apartheid.

In 2012 he told NPR that he was fascinated by how Americans discuss race.

I got to Baltimore and I was expecting ... because urban means built up and new you know he said. So I got there and I was 'Whoa it's not as urban as people told me.' ... But it's very black. I'll tell you that much.

Noah told CNN's African Voices in 2013 that after finding success in his homeland where he starred on a soap opera hosted his own radio show and was the subject of the 2012 documentary You Laugh But It's True he moved to the United States for a year to try to raise his profile.

He returned to his country with new material shaped by his time spent in the States he said.

Comedy is really getting quite popular in South Africa Noah said. It's moving from the bastard child of entertainment into the mainstream which is very good. I think the reason it's doing so well is because South Africans need to laugh and South Africans want to laugh.

Noah has moved to the U.S. permanently and told Newsweek I've always wanted to be a comedian in the world. I don't want to be labeled a South African comedian.

On The Daily Show he debuted as a correspondent with a bit titled Spot the Africa which juxtaposed modern day South Africa and the United States.

What remains to be seen is whether what the Guardian has described as his combination of terribly polite butter wouldn't melt stage presence and biting often brutal gags will translate into success on The Daily Show.

Kids Choice Awards 2015 Angelina Jolie Jennifer Lopez Tons of Slime

Nick Jonas wowed the crowd at the 2015 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards held Saturday at the Forum in Inglewood Calif. which seats 17 500 screaming kids.

The host pulled double duty kicking off the live show with a medley performance of his hits Chains and Jealous. Welcomed by a video montage of A listers chanting his name Taylor Swift Heidi Klum and of course SpongeBob SquarePants Patrick Star Jonas took the stage in front of the star studded audience including Chris Pratt Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie who was joined by two of her kids Shiloh and Zahara.

A lot of girls in the house are still struggling after One Direction became two directions Jonas greeted the crowd alluding to this week s news of the boy band losing member Zayn Malik. Poking fun at himself he quipped What s next the Jonas Brother

Emma Stone won the first award of the night for favorite movie actress. Next up Kaley Cuoco Sweeting and Kevin James presented Liam Hemsworth who walked up to stage through a fountain of slime with the orange blimp for favorite male action star. Hemsworth s co star Jennifer Lawrence not in attendance also won for favorite female action star and The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 won for favorite movie.

Some of the night s other big winners were Jolie who won for Maleficient Ben Stiller who won for the latest Night at the Museum installment girl band Fifth Harmony The Voice for favorite talent competition show Disney Channel s Austin Ally and Modern Family whose entire cast was slimed when they accepted their honor for favorite family show.

When I was little I was told I was different Jolie said during her acceptance speech picking up the award for best villain. She addressed the room of kids with an inspiring message. Different is good. So don t fit in. Don t sit still. Don t ever try to do less than you are. When somebody tells you you re different smile and hold your head up high and be proud. And as your villain I would also say cause a little trouble. It s good for you.

Josh Gad who headed to the Kids Choice Awards after Variety Studio Actors on Actors presented the blimp for favorite reality Sh ow with Adam Sandler. The comedians (not to be confused with Gad s upcoming FX series) announced the winner Dance Moms but not before Sandler doused Gad in green goo via a gigantic slime gun.

Throughout the night Jonas made his way through the crowd to take photos with celebrities such as Terrell Owens and Al Roker who predicted a forecast of slime.

Jennifer Lopez was one of the show s surprise superstars. The American Idol icon presented the award for favorite male singer which went to the man of the night Jonas.

You deserve this and so much more Lopez said bringing down gallons of slime to drench the host. Do you want some more Because I can make it happen she teased.

Chris Rock Zendaya Tia Mowry Hardrict Debby Ryan YouTube phenomenons Bethany Mota and Shawn Mendes and Nick Cannon who donned an orange suit were presenters at the KCAs.

Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson teamed up to perform their single Trouble with the rapper dressed up as an inmate and the songstress as a cop.

Closing the night Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer rocked out to their hit What I Like About You and yes the stage exploded with slime.

Justin Timberlake Thanks Pregnant Wife Jessica Biel At The iHeartRadio Awards

Justin Timberlake was sure to save the best for last during his lengthy iHeartRadio Awards acceptance speech for the Innovator Award on Sunday.

After spending some time encouraging his young fans to embrace being different as well as thanking his mother and management team the 34 year old ended his speech with a touching (and funny) shout out to his pregnant wife Jessica Biel.

Lastly you can't have innovation without creation so finally I want to thank my best friend my favorite collaborator my wife Jessica at home who's watching Timberlake said. Honey I can't wait to see our greatest creation yet. Don't worry Daddy's heading home right now to innovate by learning how to change a poopy diaper and get my swaddle on.

Biel and Timberlake are expecting their first child together any day now.
