College Football Scores 2014 Week 1 Results and Top Stars for Top 25 Teams

College football is back and I know you're excited. The first full slate of action has arrived and there were a number of interesting games and standout performances.

There weren't a ton of upsets but a few underdogs came through with solid performances. Was anyone expecting the West Virginia Mountaineers to make the Alabama Crimson Tide's day so difficult

Also who was looking for the Naval Academy to give the Ohio State Buckeyes a test Hopefully more exciting games are on the way throughout the rest of the season that top an already strong start to the year.

Without further ado here are the final scores for every game involving a Top 25 team in Week 1.

Best Individual Performances

Kenny Hill QB Texas AM Aggies

Rainier Ehrhardt/Associated Press

Johnny who Kenny Hill's school record 511 passing yards and three touchdowns has a good chance of standing as one of the best single game performances of the year.

It may be a little early but ESPN outlets were already comparing Hill's start to that of the last two Heisman trophy winners.

SportsCenter ( SportsCenter) August 29 2014

Needless to say Hill will be under the microscope for the rest of the season as he attempts lead the Aggies up the rankings in the Top 25. Hopefully he'll pick up a more original nickname than Kenny Football.

Johnny Manziel was one of a kind and Hill could be good enough to warrant his own moniker.

D.J. Foster RB Arizona State Sun Devils

Matt York/Associated Press

Yes Arizona State's 45 14 win over Weber State happened on Thursday night but that shouldn't diminish D.J. Foster's monster performance.

The junior rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries.

OK sure Kenny Hill gets player of the day but ASU's DJ Foster was red hot 15car/147yd/3TD in win vs WeberState. http //t.co/viYB3yruHn

ESPN CollegeFootball ( ESPNCFB) August 29 2014

In his first appearance as the team's feature back Foster proved he is more than capable of carrying the load. His game may have been overshadowed by Hill's stellar outing but if Foster keeps this up he may begin to sneak on voters' short list of Heisman candidates.

The 147 yards on the ground broke Foster's previous career high of 132 that came in a loss at the National University Bowl to the Texas Tech Red Raiders to close out the 2013 season.

Without a doubt Foster has momentum. This season should be a breakout year for him.

Ameer Abdullah RB Nebraska Cornhuskers

With all due respect to Rex Burkhead it's been a while since the Nebraska Cornhuskers had a running back like Ameer Abdullah.

The senior from Homewood Alabama trounced the Florida Atlantic Owls for 232 yards on 21 carries and he found the end zone once. His performance already has fans and some members of the media saying the H word.

With today's 232 yard performance Ameer Abdullah is now SIXTH on NU's all time rushing chart http //t.co/3CJgALv4tW pic.twitter.com/6jptxrdIlv

World Herald Big Red ( OWHbigred) August 31 2014

While AA was quite impressive on Saturday we must remember his monster game did come against a team far beneath the competition the Cornhuskers will face in the Big Ten. AA's rushing total wasn't even half of the 498 the Owls allowed on the ground.

Ameer Abdullah expected to make an appearance on ESPN s Heisman Watch board after this week.

Nebraska fans should be excited but temper the Heisman talk for now.

Todd Gurley RB Georgia Bulldogs

David Goldman/Associated Press

As a guy on almost everyone's Heisman list Gurley validated every bit of the high praise he's been given in the season opener.

Not only did he run for 198 yards and three scores to help lead Georgia to a commanding 45 21 win his 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown tied the game at 21 and shifted the momentum in the Bulldogs' direction.

Gurley also showed off his power and speed on a 51 yard touchdown scamper. He's going to be fun to watch all season.

Everett Golson QB Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Welcome back Mr. Golson. After being forced to sit out all of the 2013 season for poor academic judgement Golson returned to his team with a bang.

Everett Golson you were missed by the Irish Golson hits William Fuller with a perfect throw for the 75 yard TD. ND leads 14 7.

SportsCenter ( SportsCenter) August 30 2014

Golson torched the Rice Owls for more than 300 total yards and five scores.

Take a gander at this stat line 14 of 22 for 295 passing yards two touchdowns 12 rushes for 41 yards three touchdowns.

If that's not doing it all we don't know what is. Golson's freshman season was cause for excitement in 2012 so missing last season was a real bummer. From the looks of him on Saturday he seems ready to emerge a better man and player.

Everett Golson feels like a great feel good story this year in college football rooting for him Made a mistake penance paid ND

Doug Gottlieb ( GottliebShow) August 30 2014

Even if you're not a Notre Dame fan it should do your heart good to see a young man rebound from a mistake. If he continues to play this way his story might become one of the biggest of the college football season.
