Robert Downey Jr.'s son may be following his father's dark path.

Indio Downey was arrested Sunday afternoon in West Hollywood for cocaine possession.

The 20 year old was a passenger in the car that was pulled over after officers saw Downey smoking from a pipe.

The deputy drove up near him and saw him using a cocaine pipe Sgt. Dave Valentine told the Daily News referring to Indio.

That was the reason for the stop. He was the front seat passenger Valentine said adding that it was at the intersection of La Cienega Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

After the car was stopped and searched a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy said he found cocaine in Downey's possession and placed him under arrest at 2 20 p.m.

The Iron Man 3 star's son was released shortly after midnight after posting bail jail records show.

Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it Downey Jr. said in a statement to the Daily News Monday.

Also there is a lot of family support and understanding and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being he added. We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.

The 49 year old movie star is no stranger to cocaine addiction and struggled with substance abuse including heroin. His battle landed him in prison several times including in 2000 and again in 2001. His final prison stints were followed by a court ordered drug treatment program which proved beneficial for the actor who finally achieved sobriety.

After Downey Jr. appeared in 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang alongside his son Hollywood began to take notice of his ability to bounce back from his problems with drugs.

Now he's estimated to have earned $75 million between June 2013 and June 2014 and was named Forbes' Most Powerful Actor.
