Adam Richman 40 hosts many of the network's successful programs including Man vs. Food and Best Thing I Ever Ate. But the TV personality caused a social media stir last week when he captioned an Instagram selfie thinspiration a term used on websites promoting anorexia and bulimia.
When activists pointed out the word's dangerous meaning Richman lashed out according to screenshots captured by blogger Amber Sarah.
Seriously grab a razor blade draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you he reportedly wrote in the exchange.
His Instagram account is now private.
Richman released an apology to ABC News on Tuesday.
I've long struggled with my body image and have worked very hard to achieve a healthy weight he said in the statement. I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt.
The foodie recently celebrated his 70 lb. weight loss by posing naked for Cosmopolitan U.K.'s July issue.
