LOUISVILLE KY (WAVE) If you were one of the thousands of people who didn't get your Christmas gifts on time last year because of shipping snafu with UPS Big Brown is asking that you don't hold a grudge against them. UPS has made major changes to their operations to make sure last year isn't repeated.
It's peak season for the shipping giant. A lot of packages that are going out on Tuesday are Cyber Monday purchases. Because more people are shopping online UPS is beefing up the way they do things to make sure your Christmas gifts get under the tree on time.

In 2013 it was the perfect storm of problems for UPS wintry weather in parts of the country a surge in online shopping and a shortened shopping season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. But this year UPS says it's prepared to move forward and has learned more about how its customers shop now especially with e commerce.
We've seen more of those distribution centers here locally means more of that package volume is coming in via tractor trailers we call feeder trucks said Jeff Wafford a UPS spokesman.
To make room for those trucks UPS added 900 parking spots for tractor trailers that bring customer packages onto the airport property. One thousand new staging bays and 57 new processing doors were also added. UPS has also hired more people.
Around the country we upped our hiring to 90 000 95 000 people for this season said Wafford and here locally we're hiring 2 900 people and we're still hiring.
More hands on deck help when you have 585 million packages that will move through UPS in the month of December that's an 11 percent increase from 2013.
With flights taking off and landing every 60 to 90 seconds at night Big Brown is a big operation.
Companies like Amazon Zappos Amgen and Gilt are just some of the 160 companies have come to the Louisville area to be closer to UPS Worldport.
