Just f k Ronda Rousey dominates in 14 seconds is not fair

LOS ANGELES Ronda Rousey has stopped every opponent she has faced in her meteoric mixed martial arts career so a first round victory is no shock for the UFC s bantamweight champion.

Except nobody had finished a UFC title fight this quickly and hardly anyone had ever done it with so much flair.

Rousey stopped Cat Zingano with an acrobatic armbar after just 14 seconds dramatically defending her 135 pound title at UFC 184 on Saturday night.

Rousey s fifth title defense before the sellout Staples Center crowd could process what it just witnessed. Those 14 seconds were action packed and Rousey delivered again.

There s very few situations where a fight goes 14 seconds and the crowd is cheering and going crazy and looking at each other with their mouths open UFC President Dana White said.

After the takedown a clearly out of it Zingano dropped many F bombs her shaken voice matching a blitzed looked upon her.

Rousey (11 0) earned the most impressive victory of her career with jaw dropping speed taking out the previously unbeaten Zingano with her signature armlock from an unlikely position.

Zingano (9 1) dropped Rousey on her head with a flying charge at the opening bell but the champ used her peerless judo skills to flip Zingano onto her back. Rousey scampered into position to wrench Zingano s arm grotesquely and just like that the challenger tapped out.

Rousey wasn t surprised by the opening charge She suspected Zingano might try to catch her unprepared. Rousey didn t expect to get turned upside down but when it happened the Olympic medal winning judoka relied on instinct.

I made that up on the fly to be honest Rousey said. But it was kind of funny We were going toward the ground and I kind of reverted back to judo mode and was thinking Don t touch your back. It s a point. That s where the acrobatic thing came from was thinking about not touching your back in judo. Nobody in the women s sport can touch Rousey the most dominant champion in MMA.

Rousey s last three fights have lasted a total of 96 seconds including two bouts against previously unbeaten opponents. Her 14 second finish was a record for any UFC title bout but she thought it only went to plan.

Rousey celebrates the blink and you missed it victory.Photo AP

That s not usually how you land an armbar at that angle but it works Rousey said.

Champion boxer Holly Holm made her much hyped UFC debut with a split decision victory over Raquel Pennington in UFC 184 s penultimate bout as the world s dominant mixed martial arts promotion ended a two year absence from Southern California the home base of Rousey and numerous fighters.

But the night was a showcase for the star power of Rousey who has become one of the UFC s most prominent fighters just two years after the promotion added women s bouts. Zingano was considered the most daunting active threat to Rousey s reign but was obliterated.

Zingano chose the dubious strategy of charging and grabbing onto Rousey whose judo skills make her practically unbeatable in a clinch.

She s really good but that wouldn t happen again Zingano said. It was a knee and then a throw and then a scramble and then she was wrapped around my arm. I got caught. I was ready to do a million different things. I planned on getting in a fistfight tonight.

For the first time in UFC history two women s fights headlined a pay per view event. Although partly created by necessity when middleweight champion Chris Weidman was injured that spotlight is the latest affirmation for women s MMA and Rousey a movie star a model and a celebrity who can sell out a large arena in her hometown.

The 33 year old Holm (8 0) ended an 11 year pro boxing career in 2013 to concentrate on MMA.

Although she did enough to win her UFC debut against the scrappy undersized Pennington (5 6) Holm and White both said she needs a few more UFC fights before she can challenge for Rousey s belt.

Southern California fighters Tony Ferguson and Alan Jouban kicked off the pay per view card with dynamic first round stoppage victories. Ferguson has won five straight bouts while Jouban bounced back from a debatable loss with an impressive striking performance.

Although Los Angeles is the largest U.S. city that allows MMA competition the UFC hadn t staged a card in the area since Rousey s debut with the promotion in Anaheim in February 2013. A mediocre card scheduled for Staples Center last summer was canceled when champion Jose Aldo was injured.

The extra publicity paid off Rousey and the UFC attracted a star studded Hollywood crowd including Vin Diesel Mark Wahlberg Anthony Kiedis and Mickey Rourke. Also watching at cageside was former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar the professional wrestler who is thought to be contemplating a return to MMA.

What Dakota Johnsons mom thought of her SNL performance

(CNN)Don't listen to the haters Dakota Johnson You made your famous mother proud.

Amid mixed reviews for the Fifty Shades actor's appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live her mother Melanie Griffith chimed in with her own parental take.

She killed it Wow I loved her poise her comic timing her grace loved everything she did

Griffith and her ex husband Don Johnson were in the audience for their daughter's monologue which she used to riff on the film adaptation of E.L. James' hit erotic novel. She also made it personal by noting that in December 1988 my mother stood in this exact spot and hosted 'SNL.' After the show her father proposed to her mother for the second time she said as the camera panned to her parents who jokingly shielded their eyes.

What the critics thought of 'Fifty Shades'

Memorable or not the monologue was overshadowed by a skit featuring Johnson playing an ISIS recruit.

The fake recruiting ad shows a father dropping off his daughter at the airport.

Are you sure you don't want to do another year of high school the father asks.

Dad it's just ISIS the daughter says and trots off to a truck filled with armed gunmen.

Some viewers took to social media to criticize the skit as bad form.

After recent killings why would Dakota Johnson think that would be funny author Steena Holmes tweeted a sentiment echoed by many.

But SNL castmember Taran Killam who played the father in the skit said he was proud of the sketch.

Freedom to mock is our greatest weapon. Thanks to the writers who asked not to be mentioned by name he tweeted.

Anyway all that matters is what your parents think right

Mason played like a true New Yorker

Remembering Anthony MasonNEXT VIDEO Remembering Anthony MasonRemembering Anthony MasonFormer Knick Anthony Mason Dies At 48Former Knick Anthony Mason Dies At 48Knicks Honor Mason Beat RaptorsKnicks Honor Mason Beat RaptorsAuburn Texas AM Honor Mason FamilyAuburn Texas AM Honor Mason Family

Anthony Mason had his reasons for playing angry for chasing after rebounds like his fellow frustrated New Yorkers chased after buses and cabs. He did not play for the joy of the game half as much as he played to stick it to the doubters and haters to show them that he never should have been forced to take his game to Turkey Venezuela and the minor leagues of American basketball.

That's why Knicks fans adored him. He was the underdog out of Springfield Gardens in Queens who played for the Tennessee State Tigers not for the Kentucky Wildcats or Duke Blue Devils and who embodied a barrel chested physicality on the court that mirrored the everyday grind of city life for the upper deckers inside Madison Square Garden.

Mason sat in those seats as a kid and he joined those fans as a suspended Knick dressed in a New York Rangers jersey looking down on Pat Riley the coach who had temporarily banned him from the building. Mason and Riley fought more often than hockey goons minus the actual punches and blood of course and yet deep down the coach and the forward saw in each other as a kindred spirit an opponent who refused to back down.

Anthony willed himself into the NBA and very few players can do that Don Cronson Mason's longtime agent and friend told ESPN.com hours after Mason's death Saturday at age 48. Any NBA team could've had him for a nickel and he turned out to be the perfect Pat Riley player. I think Pat saw a lot of himself in Anthony and really they were the same guy. That's why they butted heads as often as they did. They were both blue collar guys and fighters. Anthony told me 'Pat Riley was the one who gave me my chance. He's the one who saw something in me when nobody else did.'

Actually Knicks scout Fuzzy Levane first sold Riley and the front office guys Dave Checketts and Ernie Grunfeld on the idea of signing Mason for their summer league team in 1991 right after Riley was hired. Ed Krinsky was running the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League when he told Levane he had a guy who'd played a bit for the Nets and Nuggets who could make the Knicks' roster if given a shot.

Riley watched from the summer league stands as Mason grabbed a rebound dribbled the length of the floor and dunked on a bigger man. The coach had long accepted the fact that he wouldn't be bringing Lakers Showtime east to the Garden. The Knicks of Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley would honor Riley's own blue collar roots in Schenectady New York and Mason was a perfect fit for that approach.

Mase was so mechanical in his play and he was never supposed to make it in the league for a host of reasons Checketts recalled Saturday morning by phone. But over time we saw him as the kind of player we needed to change the whole reputation of the Knicks after we hired Pat. We wanted to stop people and Mase had those big hands long arms and massive shoulders and an inferiority complex that fueled him to embrace the big moments when he was challenged.

Riley challenged him more than anyone. He sent Mason to the showers after one confrontation in the middle of a game and suspended him once in 1994 and again in 1995 for conduct unbecoming a pro. The '94 suspension came at the close of the regular season and inspired Riley to seriously consider leaving an enraged Mason off his playoff roster.

As the deadline to turn in that roster to the league office closed down on them Riley Checketts and Grunfeld held a conference call to determine Mason's fate.

Ernie thought it was crazy we were even considering that Checketts said but on that call I said 'Pat this is completely up to you and we've got to make the decision now.' The phone fell silent for a full minute and I wasn't sure he was still on the line. And then finally Pat said 'Put him on.'

Mason contributed off the bench to help the Knicks reach Game 7 of a Finals they lost to Houston then won the league's Sixth Man of the Year award despite the second suspension the following season. After Riley bolted for Miami his replacement Don Nelson decided the offense needed to revolve around Mason of all people instead of Ewing.

Anthony was thrilled about that Krinsky his old Long Island Surf GM said Saturday by phone. He wanted the ball in his hands because he felt he had playmaking ability. He felt that Nelson's philosophy was what was needed and that the Knicks were spending too much time getting the ball inside and not challenging the other team's guards and forwards.

Mason finally had a little security and leverage on his side he'd just signed a six year $24 million deal in September. Cronson wanted him to hold out for more and Grunfeld would later admit he was willing to go to $27 million but the overlooked and unwanted prospect inside Mason was terrified the Knicks might pull their first bid off the table.

A starter for the first time Mason averaged 14.6 points and 9.3 rebounds and shot 56 percent from the floor. But Nelson was fired in the middle of the season in favor of Jeff Van Gundy and a front office worn down by the fact Mason led the league in rebellious eye rolls decided to trade him to Charlotte for Larry Johnson that July.

And Mase was devastated Checketts said. His message to us through Cronson was that he was going to make us regret that deal like we never regretted anything else and that things were never going to be the same here without him.

Pure Mase.

Riley later reacquired him in Miami (of course he did) and Mason rewarded Riley by making his first All Star team (of course he did). But his basketball story did not have the happiest of endings. Mason had numerous run ins with the police throughout his career including an arrest in 1998 and a charge of engaging in sex with two underage girls. (He would plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and get sentenced to 200 hours of community service.)

My last meeting with Anthony was about two years ago Krinsky said and he wanted to get into coaching. But he was persona non grata in the NBA and it was a shame because he was a misunderstood guy who was hurt during his career by the hangers on.

Cronson said Mason was known by friends to be a loving son to his mother Mary and a dedicated father to his two sons Anthony Jr. and Antoine who would go on to play major college basketball.

While with the Knicks Mason awarded scholarships to underprivileged kids to attend his summer camp and spent part of one of his suspensions at the bedside of a terminally ill child whose last wish was to meet his favorite player.

Anthony Mason was the favorite Knick for a lot of people for reasons that will be remembered long after his death. Mason was from the big city and he played a game that matched up with the best descriptions of his fellow New Yorkers.

Tough. Defiant. Straight from the heart.

Kelly Osbourne quits E s Fashion Police

Kelly Osbourne (center) has quit E 's 'Fashion Police.' Fashion Police is losing one of its most popular co hosts.

The backlash from Rancic's comment fell onto Osbourne who took to Twitter to convey her displeasure over the situation.

I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT sic Osborne tweeted on Tuesday. I DOT NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT sic OF THIS IM SEREIOUSLY sic QUESTIONONIG sic STAYING ON THE SHOW

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is here and has a hot brother the Galaxy S6 Edge

It's been rumored for months but it's finally here Samsung has unveiled its new flagship smartphone the Galaxy S6. But this time it's accompanied by a cooler better looking brother the Galaxy S6 Edge which features an eye catching design with a screen that curves around both sides.

Yes we've seen this before sort of The Galaxy S6 Edge borrows heavily from the Galaxy Note Edge which came out last fall and had a curve on just one side. But where the Note had a versatile side screen that doubled as an app launcher news scroll and occasional ruler the S6 version is more limited The curves are mainly a design ornament and there are no panels to swipe through.

See also Samsung and HTC are poised to reclaim the biggest show in mobile

So what good is it Besides giving you something to brag about to your friends the S6 Edge still has the side clock and news scroll although you can only call them up in standby mode. You can also instantly call up a list of recent contacts with a swipe of your thumb and if the phone is face down the sides of the phone will light up when someone calls you.

Galactic cluster

The Samsung Galaxy S6 (right) is Samsung's new flagship phone. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (left) is a variant with curved sides.

Galaxy S6 Edge

The curved sides of the Galaxy S6 Edge are more design accoutrement than feature. They give the phone a distinctive look without warping imagery much at all.

Galaxy Note Edge with Galaxy S6 Edge

The Galaxy S6 Edge (right) doesn't use the curved sides as a secondary screen like the Galaxy Note Edge does although a few features (like the night clock) carry over.

Quick contacts

Swiping in from the side on the top right will reveal your most commonly used contacts.

Contact info

Tap the contact and ways to reach them are displayed. The functionality incorporates layers and animation consistent with Google Material design.

Short curves

The curves on the S6 Edge aren't really large enough to include a secondary screen.

Improved fingerprint scanner

Instead of a swipe the new fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge only needs a finger press.

Simplified menus

Samsung simplified the menus for the S6 including this one for the cameras.

Smart manager

The smart manager lets you easily control some of the most basic functions of the phone.

Camera upgrade

The rear 16 megapixel camera is a quick draw Samsung says it can go from in your pocket to snapping your first pic in less than 0.7 of a second.

Continuous autofocus

The camera can also track objects as they move keeping them in focus for still pictures and video.

Two flagships

Both Galaxy S6 phones side by side.

Special colors

The phones come in black white and gold with a special blue version for the S6 and a green model for the S6 Edge.

And yes also its hotness. The phone's design will definitely turn some heads and I have to admit it looks and feels pretty sweet. I thought the curves might make videos or photos look warped but that wasn't the case Samsung letterboxes media ever so slightly in landscape mode to avoid this.

The regular S6 is no slouch in the design department either. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the most beautiful phone to ever exist in Samsung's S series and possibly its entire smartphone lineup. Although the metal rim certainly evokes the same design language as Apple's latest iPhones there's no question it's a great choice and the subtle edging actually makes it grippier than the iPhone 6.

Specs and new features

Design aside the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge reclaim the flagship crown from the Galaxy Note 4. Each has a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution the same 2 560 x 1 440 resolution as the LG G3 and Google Nexus 6. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop. The global model packs Samsung s latest octa core processor and it felt pretty nimble switching apps and surfing the web (I tried out the global version Samsung usually uses Qualcomm chips for the U.S. models although it hasn't said it will for the Galaxy S6).

The fingerprint scanners in Samsung s phones have never been the most reliable but the Galaxy S6 improves on the feature by ditching the sliding of your fingerprint across the button. Instead you just press (wonder where they got that idea ).

Press the home button twice really fast and you ll launch the phone s camera. Samsung worked hard to cut down the quick draw time the interval between the phone being in your pocket to snapping your first photo and it claims to have reduced it to 0.7 seconds. I couldn t verify that exactly but it certainly felt much faster than the Galaxy S5 which was a slowpoke in this department.

The Galaxy S6 Edge (right) doesn't use the curved sides as a secondary screen like the Galaxy Note Edge does although a few features (like the night clock) carry over.

Image Mashable Elizabeth Pierson

The S6 also has several high end features you usually only find in real cameras or larger phones The 16 megapixel imager has optical image stabilization which can help reduce motion blur as well as continuous autofocus so you can track an object through the frame keeping it in focus no matter how it moves. The continuous autofocus isn't that intuitive to engage but it appears to work as advertised I shot clear video of my hand a moving wind up car and a person moving around a crowded room and each time the subject was kept in focus. It also has a wide aperture of f/1.9.

The front camera is 5 megapixels with an f/1.9 aperture. Both have real time HDR shooting which means you can select an HDR photo (which can sometimes improve exposure) after you take the pic.

Samsung has also built wireless charging into Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge. Not only that but it's compatible with both major standards Qi and PMA which means you'll be able to juice up your phone almost any place that provides charging stations (e.g. Starbucks airport lounges etc.). Previous Samsung phones needed a special back plate for wireless charging now the phone supports it natively.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are the first Samsung phones to support the company's mobile payments system which hasn t launched yet. But when it does in the next few months the phones will be ready. Samsung says its payment platform will support both NFC and old magnetic stripe readers (thanks to technology it acquired from LoopPay) this means it will work with potentially many more machines than Apple Pay.

Simplified approach

Although it sounds like Samsung threw everything but the kitchen sink into the Galaxy S6 the company says it worked hard to reduce complexity. Menus (particularly the camera's) no long pepper you with too many options and there's a simple manager tool to let you keep track of which apps are hogging RAM or draining your battery.

Simplified menus and easy to use tools like this smart manager help the Samsung Galaxy S6 avoid feature creep.

Image Mashable Elizabeth Pierson

One feature that Samsung actually downgraded from the Galaxy S5 is its water resistance. Neither the S6 nor the S6 Edge is rated for dunks in the tub I guess Samsung like Sony discovered people don't care that much about how waterproof their phone is.

After handling the phone for several minutes I already like the Galaxy S6 a lot more than last year's Galaxy S5. It s disappointing that the S6 Edge doesn t have the same utility as the Note version but I can understand why since the device is targeted at the mainstream. As much as I was impressed by the Note's Edge panel it's really a geek feature.

It doesn't hurt that the S6 Edge looks fantastic. With an emphasis on simplicity design and restraint (there are just a few new features but they're extremely relevant) Samsung is moving in the right direction with its flagship even if that direction was largely trailblazed by Apple.

No word on pricing of either model yet but you can bet the S6 Edge will cost more. It takes a lot of money to look this good.

House of Cards Needs to Read Up on Russia

Spoiler alert This review includes plot details from the first six episodes of season three of House of Cards.

At the outset of House of Cards third season Frank Underwood is president of the United States. After all his mischief and plotting the time has come for Underwood played by Kevin Spacey to do the inevitable govern. But by focusing on the exercise of executive power the show s third season which was released on Netflix Friday Feb. 27 stumbles out of the gate in its first six episodes.

In its first two seasons House of Cards biggest strength lay in its soapy portrayal of politics in Washington. Spacey s power hungry politician wasn t always realistic but the show s sharp dialogue melodramatic plotting outsized characters and heavy doses of violence and graphic sex were enough to keep Netflix subscribers binge watching. The third season attempts to apply this formula to the foreign policy realm introducing the show s characters to battles at the United Nations over missile defense in Eastern Europe and with an autocratic Russia. But House of Cards struggles to sustain credulity in the world of international politics.

A key plotline of the third season turns on Underwood s confrontation with fictional Russian President Viktor Petrov a man with an uncanny resemblance to a certain Vladimir Putin. The fictional Russian leader s visit to Washington is met by protests against Russia s anti LGBT laws and Pussy Riot s Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina playing themselves become a focal point of the third episode when they attend a White House dinner.

But House of Cards portrait of Putin in the mirror is decidedly off. At the dinner Petrov is uncharacteristically concerned about the opinions and well being of Pussy Riot two of whose members in real life were imprisoned for nearly two years for protesting against the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin himself.

In other instances House of Cards Petrov comes across as a mere comical caricature of a Russian leader rather than as a believable adversary for Underwood. At one point the two men reference the shirtless photo ops and manly adventures that have made Putin more meme than ruler. But then the show goes on to add to Petrov s profile knocking back vodka partying in dachas and womanizing characteristics more reminiscent of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin than Putin. A revanchist former KGB spy accused of imprisoning or killing rivals while ruthlessly consolidating power and conquering parts of neighboring countries would seem to be sufficiently exciting material in a soap opera but the show s creators seem to have felt the need to go even further.

In a recent interview with New Times a Russian news site Pussy Riot s members said Petrov didn t quite capture Putin s essence. Petrov is more of a little tsar Alyokhina said. He is too jolly for Putin of course.

In one measure of the show s hazy understanding of international politics Petrov is invited to Washington for meetings on a convoluted Middle East peace plan contingent upon cooperation and backroom deals between Washington and Moscow. Russia like the Soviet Union before it has long supported Palestine but centering a confrontation between the two superpowers on peace in the Middle East and not say Russia s meddling in eastern Ukraine results in a distorted depiction of world politics.

As a result the focus on Russia and the caricatured portrayal of Putin come across as a shallow attempt to tap into the zeitgeist of Russian meddling in Ukraine and fighting in that country s east. House of Cards is still addictive to watch but the show s producers need to brush up on their knowledge of Russia.

Theres already a conspiracy theory brewing over net neutrality

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler center joins hands with FCC Commissioners Mignon Clyburn left and Jessica Rosenworcel before the start of their open hearing in Washington Thursday Feb. 26 2015. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

Why won't they release the rules

It's been less than 24 hours since the Federal Communications Commission voted to approve strict new regulations on Internet providers but that's the leading question coming from its critics.

Conservatives are demanding that the FCC release a full copy of the regulations that it's planning to impose on companies such as Comcast and Verizon and taking the agency's silence as evidence of a cover up. Readers of an FCC blog post have suspiciously mused that these new regulations should have been published by now. It's much the same over on Twitter.

victoriastrauss b_fung If these rules are so wonderful why even after the vote are they STILL being withheld ObamaNet

Sarcastic Texan ( TexanSarcastic) February 26 2015

Let's stop this nonsense right here. It's a stretch to think the FCC is withholding anything. While it was certainly within FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler's power to release his draft proposal before it came to a vote the regulations now must go through a formal process before they become official. And say what you will about bureaucratic inefficiency but that's the chief reason the FCC won't be releasing the rules for some time.

Not even Internet providers who are generally frustrated by the content of the rules are all that outraged about the delay. They're going to see the document sooner or later. And they'll still likely sue to have them overturned.

This is one more step in the swamp there's much more of a slog to come said one wireless industry official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak more freely.

It's easy to see how all this secrecy could be confusing. Once a vote takes place and the gavel drops shouldn't that be the moment when the world changes After all it's more or less how elections work right

Well rulemaking is a little bit different.

As is typical for a final rule and order said Kim Hart an FCC spokeswoman the final document is not available until staff makes final edits which must be cleared by each commissioner.

Final edits don't mean a secret attempt by officials to scribble in new regulations at the last minute. Here's what that means instead Under the FCC's procedures dissenting arguments must be tallied up and responded to by the FCC's majority in this case the Democrats.

When that's done probably after a few weeks the FCC will post the rules on the agency's Web site. At that point the public will be able to see the specific language. It'll be another few weeks before the document will be published in the Federal Register the collection of all the rules and notices adopted by the government.

For the most part the rules won't take effect for another 60 days after that. Certain parts of the regulation will take even longer.

Until then a lot of nothing's going to happen said a telecom industry official who asked not to be named to discuss internal deliberations more freely.

The Dress Why We See It Differently The Cartoon That Explains It All

Finally an explanation to put the dress debate of the century to rest After the Internet exploded with people weighing in on whether a dress was black and blue or white and gold a new cartoon surfaced which explains why people are perceiving different colors.

The world will make much more sense after seeing this illustration. A cartoon posted by XKCD explains the science behind the mind boggling dress color confusion. People are standing by their beliefs of seeing either a black and blue or a white and gold dress and now the illustration simply explains why.

The Dress Explanation Cartoon Explains Why People See Different Colors

The XKCD cartoon puts the original overexposed image of the dress in the center and adjusts the light on each side. It aims to explain that our brains auto adjust to the color we see based on the amount of light around the dress.

Take Our Poll

In the cartoon the dress colors are the same on both sides but the backgrounds or rather the lighting are completely different. On the left we have a blue lit room where the dress appears white and gold and then on the right a yellow lit room where the dress appears to be blue and black.

Bottom line is some people s brains perceive the original image to be lit by blue light while others perceive it to be lit by yellow light. So basically we re judging the color of the light we see which allows us to formulate the color of the dress in our minds. We know crazy

Boris Nemtsov Opposition figure who took on Vladimir Putin

(CNN)The slaying of prominent Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov in the heart of Moscow has shocked Russia and the wider world.

His murder two days before a planned opposition march has also outraged fellow opposition figures and prompted a slew of speculation over who could be behind it.

Some government critics pointed fingers in the direction of President Vladimir Putin or one of his supporters. State media reported Nemtsov had received threats linked to his stance on the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

The Kremlin suggested Nemtsov may have been killed by enemies of Russia intent on creating political discord. The leader of Russia's Communist Party similarly blamed anti Russian provocation according to the official news agency Tass.

So who was Boris Nemtsov And how did he make so many enemies

A Kremlin critic

Nemtsov 55 was a top official with the Republican Party of Russia/Party of People's Freedom a liberal opposition group.

He had been arrested several times for speaking against Putin's government. The most recent arrests were in 2011 when he protested the results of parliamentary elections and in 2012 when tens of thousands protested against Putin.

He had most recently been critical of the Kremlin's handling of the Ukraine crisis.

Opposition leader Ilya Yashin said his friend had been working on a report about Russian troops and their involvement in Ukraine.

In a blog entry published on the website of radio station Echo of Moscow Nemtsov wrote last weekend that the Kremlin now accused him of being behind the protests in Kiev's Maidan or Independence Square which led to the ouster of Ukraine's pro Moscow President Viktor Yanokovych.

He posted a picture from an anti Maidan protest held in Moscow which showed a marcher holding a sign with his face under the words Maidan organizer.

The Kremlin has changed its concept Nemtsov wrote. It used to say it's the State Department who organized the Maidan and now they say it's me.

In a hard hitting interview conducted only hours before his death with Newsweek magazine Nemtsov said Russia was drowning under Putin's leadership and was swiftly becoming a fascist state.

Due to the policy of Vladimir Putin a country with unparalleled potential is sinking an economy which accumulated untold currency reserves is collapsing he said.

This government wades into a costly fratricidal war in Ukraine and into pointless confrontation with the West. We all feel the effects of this insane policy.

Nemtsov accused Putin of using Goebbels style propaganda a reference to Nazi Germany's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels to brainwash his fellow countrymen.

One element of this was to implant them with a virus of inferiority complex towards the West the belief that the only thing we can do to amaze the world is use force violence and aggression Nemtsov said.

Putin has condemned Nemtsov's murder and ordered a swift investigation. The Kremlin has denied direct involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

An anti corruption campaigner

Nemtsov was also known for and may have made enemies from his anti corruption stance.

Early in his career Nemtsov won praise for his efforts as governor of Nizhniy Novgorod a large city and major economic hub.

Nemtsov was also a vocal critic of the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi calling them one of the most outrageous swindles in recent Russian history.

In a 2013 report he questioned where $20 billion to $30 billion had gone saying preparations for the Games had been characterized by embezzlement and unprecedented corruption.

In a restaurant interview with CNN's Anthony Bourdain last year Nemtsov lamented the situation for business owners.

This is a country of corruption. And if you have business you are in a very unsafe situation. Everybody can press you and destroy your business. That's it Nemtsov said.

In the same interview he did offer a hint of optimism.

This is my country. The Russian people are in bit of trouble. Russian court doesn't work. Russian education decline every year. I believe that Russia has a chance to be free. Has a chance. It's difficult but we must do it he said.

In a statement after his death U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Nemtsov had always worked toward a more democratic and prosperous Russia.

In every post he sought to reform and open Russia and to empower the Russian people to have a greater say in the life of their country he said.

A former deputy Prime Minister

Years before he became a key opposition leader Nemtsov served as deputy Prime Minister under former President Boris Yeltsin the first post Soviet President.

Back in the 1990s he was a high flier bound for greater things. But he lost out in the struggle to succeed Yeltsin and had been marginalized since Putin was elected said Peter Baker author of Kremlin Rising and a New York Times reporter.

He was a person who had been fierce in his criticism of Putin. He'd clearly gotten under Putin's skin on a number of occasions. A number of people had become his enemies Baker said.

Baker said Nemtsov tried to work with Putin's regime at first but soon switched to the opposition.

History will remember him as someone who took chances who risked his life literally to speak out in a country where speaking out is not encouraged to say the least Baker said.

Opinion Nemtsov killing A chilling historical parallel

An honest patriot

Nemtsov was a man who impressed many who met him with his energy and passion for his homeland.

Sir Andrew Wood a former UK ambassador to Russia told CNN that Nemtsov whom he knew personally in the 1990s was a genuine Russian patriot who opposed what the Kremlin had come to stand for.

He was enthusiastic he was engaging I think he was always true to his beliefs he didn't take himself over seriously but he did his best to promote liberal reform then and he had been before a very successful mayor of one of the central towns Nizhniy Novgorod.

Former U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul paid tribute to Nemtsov as a real patriot who believed in the possibility of Russia's greatness and said he wept for both Nemtsov's family and the country he loved.

Politics aside he was always a loyal loving friend of mine for 20 years. We all will miss him dearly he said.

Putin in a telegram to Nemtsov's mother Dina Eydman also paid tribute to Nemtsov's integrity.

Boris Nemtsov left his mark on the history of Russia in politics and public life. He worked on important positions in the difficult transition period for our country. He always openly and honestly stated his position defended his point of view he said.

Putin vowed that her son's killers would be properly punished.

A marked man

Nemtsov's death has shocked Russia but it may not have come as a total surprise.

Nemtsov acknowledged in an interview with Russian newspaper Sobesednik this month that he was a little bit afraid that his mother's fear that Putin would have him killed would come true.

But he added I'm not afraid of him that much. If I was afraid I wouldn't be heading an opposition party and do what I'm doing.

Nemtsov's lawyer Vadim Prokhorov told Russian media that Nemtsov's life had been threatened on social media in recent weeks.

But he didn't walk around with bodyguards noted Julia Ioffe a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine who has covered Russian politics extensively.

It was a very overt message of bravery Ioffe told CNN's AC360.

What we've seen in return is a very overt message of fear. People in the opposition will not believe anything that comes out of the Kremlin in terms of who did this. They perceive this as a message directly sent to them. When you see Boris Nemtsov's body lying with the Kremlin as a backdrop they understand that's a message directed to them.

In his final Newsweek interview Nemtsov spoke of the need for an alternative vision a different idea of Russia. Our idea is the one of a democratic and open Russia. A country which is not applying bandit methods to its own citizens and neighbors.

Crowds mourn Boris Nemtsov

Khloe Kardashian Would Like You To Know About Her Fitness Routine

Khloe Kardashian is a woman of many talents. She loves a good celebrity Twitter feud she once hosted a show where people sang and now she's a fitness buff. According to some Instagram photos she shared Khloe's been up in the gym working on her fitness.

Yes the fat one (her words) would like you to know that she's no longer overweight and unhealthy now she love fitness and likes her baby abs.

Kardashian shared two photos on Instagram offering a little before and after perspective.

Khloe Instagrammed the before and after with this cumbersome explanation

Looking back at pictures of myself I didn't realize at the time how unhealthy my lifestyle actually was. People love to call me the fat one but as weird as it sounds I still don't think I would consider myself fat back then. Definitely overweight and unhealthy yes. About two years ago I decided to turn to fitness as a form of therapy and as a stress reliever. I started slow and eventually I started working out 4 to 5 days a week. We all have to start somewhere and doing something is better than nothing at all. Start small so you don't get discouraged and give up. Remember it is all about consistency. There are no quick fixes if you want long term results. Working out is a huge part of my life now. I genuinely enjoy sweating out my frustrations and living a healthier life. My workouts are not all about vanity. They are about clarity for my mind and soul. We all have different journeys in life make sure your journey is for you and you alone. Remember in the end the turtle won the race. Slow and steady dedication and tenacity.

She also Instagrammed this photo

She captioned the photo

My fitness journey will be a life long journey. Fitness is not about being better than someone else It's about being better than you used to be. I'm not where I want to be and who knows if I ever will be. But I am healthier than ever and due to my consistent workouts I am slowly seeing results. Hi baby abs I see you I hope to meet your other ab friends soon (yes I'm talking to my muscles. I've never met most of them before).

My biggest takeaway Khloe's bathroom is really nice and it's about the same size as my whole apartment.
