The Kings selected Ben McLemore with the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft on Thursday. Here s a look at McLemore and how he fits with Sacramento

Bio Kansas Freshman Shooting Guard

Vitals 6 5 189 pounds

2012 13 Statistics 15.9 points 5.2 rebounds 2 assists 1 steal 49.5 percent shooting in 37 games.

Strengths McLemore is considered one of the best shooters in the draft drawing comparisons to Ray Allen. He finished his one and only season at Kansas second in the Big 12 in three point shooting (42 percent) and sixth in three pointers made per game (1.97). The 20 year old is also an excellent athlete with ideal size for an NBA 2 guard.

Weaknesses Consistency is the biggest issue for McLemore. He led Kansas in scoring last season but struggled on the road regularly disappearing from games. McLemore will need to become more consistent and aggressive to reach his potential.

What Scouts Say He s not very good off the bounce and he s not great at creating his own shot but he s the best shooter in the draft. Lack of killer instinct is certainly a question but the fact that he s humble helps him. I think he ll be a better pro than Nerlens Noel . He s got growth in his game.

Team Fit After having their franchise saved from relocation at the last moment Kings fans must be utterly thrilled that McLemore seen as a top two or three talent in this year s class made it all the way down to No. 7. A traditional 2 guard with one of the prettiest shots you will ever see McLemore has the potential to be the face of a franchise that has new ownership new management team and a new coaching staff. The Kings have a glut of scoring wings on the roster already and they must decide on the future of Tyreke Evans this summer but McLemore is the type of talent that you clear house to accommodate. Rumors on Thursday indicated that Sacramento was interested in trading up the board to acquire McLemore turns out they got their guy without sacrificing any assets.
