Robert Plant Goes Doo Wop With Jimmy Fallon on Duke of Earl

By Miriam Coleman September 27 2014

In between two New York kickoff dates for his North American fall tour Robert Plant stopped by The Tonight Show to talk with Jimmy Fallon about his new solo album Lullaby and. . . The Ceaseless Roar. During Plant's visit to the show Fallon enlisted the Led Zeppelin singer into joining him on one of his iPad aided doo wop experiments.

As he'd previously done with Billy Joel on The Lion Sleeps Tonight Fallon used the iPad Loopy app to build his voice in layers with Plant's in order to form a two man doo wop group for a performance of Gene Chandler's 1962 hit Duke of Earl. This looks like one of them funny shops in Amsterdam Plant joked while handling the microphone.

After the sit down chat Plant took the stage with the Sensational Space Shifters to perform two tracks from Lullaby the first single Rainbow as well as Turn It Up as a web exclusive.

Plant released Lullaby and. . . The Ceaseless Roar on September 9th through Nonesuch. It's pretty virile stuff and it has come from our countless hours of trudging the endless highways Plant said of the album in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. If we'd just met in a room somewhere we'd have never gone anywhere near this. Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters head to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for performances on Saturday and Sunday night before heading up to Toronto on September 30th.
