The Astronaut Wives Club showed no failure to launch for ABC Thursday night.
The Space Race era miniseries about the wives of NASA s Mercury 7 astronauts premiered to respectable ratings averaging 5.5 million viewers at 8 p.m. better than the third season premiere of Mistresses that followed (3.8 million viewers).
Astronaut Wives Club also earned a 1.1 rating among adults under 50 which was a 57 percent improvement over what last summer s dud Black Box did in the hour.
The 10 part drama follows seven military wives Rene Carpenter Trudy Cooper Annie Glenn Betty Grissom Jo Schirra Louise Shepard and Marge Slayton who rocketed to fame in the 1960s when their husbands became the first Americans in space.
