Jon Stewart introduced his show on Thursday evening by speaking for five minutes about the shooting in a Charleston church in which a white gunman murdered nine black churchgoers.
Stewart at first apologized for not doing his usual job he wouldn t be making jokes this segment. He couldn t.
I didn t do my job today Stewart said. And maybe if I wasn t nearing the end of the run or this wasn t such a common occurrence maybe I could ve pulled out of the spiral but I didn t.
He then pointed out the hypocrisy of a nation that will start two wars to defend ourselves from terrorism from outsiders but would do nothing to prevent terrorism from our own.
We ve got to do whatever we can to keep Americans safe. Nine people shot in a church what about that Hey what are you gonna do crazy is as crazy is right That s the part that I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around.
