hollywood life you need to kick your Kardashian Kool Aid prob. Adrienne s revelations to Latina were honest but still extremely poised. Hardly a slam and certainly NO intimate details were revealed by her shame The trash talking only comes when that family forever group sharpens their claws and takes aim for anyone they feel they have the right to obliterate. SMH at that family

New outfielder Yoenis Cespedes brings a power bat and strong arm to the ...

BOSTON The angst over trading Jon Lester disappeared on Thursday morning when two words surfaced in talks with the ace pitcher's name Yoenis Cespedes.

The Red Sox shipped Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes to Oakland in exchange for Cespedes and a competitive balance B pick in the 2015 June draft.

The 28 year old Cuban outfielder brings a power bat something the Red Sox had been sorely lacking aside from David Ortiz and one of the best arms in the big leagues to Boston.

The right handed hitter is batting just .256 with a .303 on base percentage but has 17 homers this season three more than the current Red Sox outfield combined.

In his first three seasons in the majors Cespedes hit 66 home runs while playing a majority of his games at the pitcher friendly O.co Coliseum in Oakland.

Clearly offense has been an issue all year everyone knows that general manager Ben Cherington said on Thursday night after the trade deadline. We knew that that was going to have to improve no matter what in different ways before next year.

Cherington noted the dearth of power bats on the impending free agent market this offseason was the impetus for acquiring one via trade.

We ll certainly still have things we need to do this winter Cherington noted. But hopefully we ve gotten a little bit of a jumpstart at least on adding to the offense.

Brooksbaseball.net shows Cespedes spray chart as pulling a majority of his home runs to left field some of which may result in doubles off the wall at Fenway. While he hasn't necessarily been a doubles machine in his career Cespedes already has 26 two base hits this season more than he had at the end of each of his first two seasons in Oakland.

In a three game set earlier this season at Fenway Cespedes went 3 for 11 with two doubles and two RBIs two walks and four strikeouts. In six career games at Fenway he's 6 for 24 with three doubles.

(Cespedes) is a really powerful dynamic player in his prime who fits in our ballpark and the outfield Cherington said.

Power bat who hits the ball out to all parts of the park and should benefit from Fenway Cherington added. He s going from a ballpark in Oakland that doesn t help power hitters quite as much as Fenway does. We re excited to have him.

Cespedes who's played 82 of 101 games this season in left field also brings one of the best arms in the game to Boston. He is tied with Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. for most outfield assists (12) in the majors and is 11th in the majors among outfielders in defensive runs saved (9). Bradley Jr. is fourth with 14.

Cherington announced Thursday that it's likely Shane Victorino will miss some time with more back issues and said the disabled list is a possibility. In his absence Cespedes who's only played center and left in his career will get time in right field. Newly acquired Allen Craig will see time in left.

We re not writing anything in stone as far as where that goes in the future Cherington said. We d like to get both guys acclimated in that way and then we ll see where we are. We d certainly hope we ve added a lot of depth and possibilities for our outfield picture going forward.

The highest paid player on the A's roster this season Cespedes is in the third year of four year $36 million deal he signed with Oakland prior to the 2012 season. According to Cots Baseball Contracts he'll be paid $10.5 million this season and next season. He'll be eligible for free agency after 2015.

This is a guy in the prime of his career who is a dynamic player Cherington said. Does a lot of different things well and certainly the type of guy we could envision wanting to have here longer.

Tigers outfield suffers with loss of Austin Jackson

For the last four plus seasons Austin Jackson has been one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball. By nearly every statistical measure in the book old school or sabermetric Jackson ranks among the top defenders in the game. Now with Jackson on his way to Seattle the Tigers are in need of a new center fielder. None of the current options will be as good as Austin but how much of a decline should we expect

Jackson's arrival in Detroit was met with a lot of questions some of which we're asking again now. In particular many wondered whether Jackson who had not yet made his major league debut would be ready to replace fan favorite Curtis Granderson from day one. The answer was a resounding yes. Jackson hit .293/.345/.400 in 675 plate appearances during his rookie season amassing 3.9 WAR at the top of the Tigers' lineup. Over the course of the past four plus seasons he has hit .277/.342/.413 with 15.7 total WAR.

So who wants to fill those shoes

Rajai Davis took Jackson's place in center field during today's game so it stands to reason that Davis may be the everyday center fielder going forward. Offensively Davis is a career .271/.318/.382 hitter but this does not tell the whole story. Davis has a career .648 OPS against right handed pitching but a stellar .802 OPS against lefties. The difference in on base percentage .297 to .360 is also important to note given Davis' excellent speed on the basepaths.

Additionally advanced metrics suggest that Davis is an average defender in center field. He has a career UZR of 0.3 and has been worth three defensive runs saved in roughly 3239.2 innings in center. His numbers are slightly worse in the corners but this stands to reason. Davis' strength is his speed and range while his arm is lacking (especially for a corner outfielder). He may be one of the rare players who struggles in a corner spot but can make things work in center.

Another possible option in center field is Andy Dirks who has spared Jackson the occasional inning or two over the past few seasons. Dirks is currently on a rehab assignment with the West Michigan Whitecaps and has not played in 2014. His career sample of just 115 innings in center field is far too small to draw any inferences from advanced metrics but his numbers in a corner outfield slot from 2013 are absolutely stellar. Dirks was also named as a finalist for a Gold Glove last season. Offensively Dirks has bounced around quite a bit. He put up a passable .703 OPS in 2011 then torched AL pitching for an .857 OPS in 2012. Last season he posted a career worst .686 OPS in 484 plate appearances.

The Tigers will call up outfielder Ezequiel Carrera to replace Jackson on the 25 man roster though it remains to be seen how much he plays. Carrera was swinging a hot bat earlier this season but was passed over for J.D. Martinez when an outfielder was needed. Thankfully that one worked out.

Carrera has not seen a lot of playing time in the majors totaling just 405 plate appearances across three seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians. He is a career .251/.306/.339 hitter with two home runs and 22 extra base hits to his name. He also has 18 stolen bases in 24 career attempts. However this has not tempered Tigers' fans expectations. Carrera has been the Mud Hens' best hitter in 2014 at .307/.387/.422. He only has 15 doubles to his name but has stolen 43 bases in 56 attempts. Defensively Carrera has not logged enough time to make any judgments based on advanced statistics but it's safe to assume that he will be at least a step behind Jackson if asked to play center field.

No matter who gets the bulk of the playing time in center field going forward my guess would be Davis the Tigers will miss Jackson's bat and glove in the lineup. Will the gamble pay off It's tough to say. Despite losing Jackson however the trade has Tigers fans excited for the rest of the season.

Highly athletic really good stuff and we feel someone who can quickly develop into a core part of our rotation.

So he was an important addition as we go into the offseason. We wouldn't have done the Lackey deal without getting someone like that back.

While the Red Sox are rebuilding their roster the Cardinals are reloading a rotation that has been short handed due to injuries to Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia.

One day after acquiring former All Star right hander Justin Masterson from the Indians St. Louis further strengthened its rotation by adding the 35 year old Lackey who went 11 7 with a 3.60 ERA in 21 starts this season his fourth with the Red Sox.

Lackey will make just $500 000 in 2015 due to a unique clause in his five year $82.5 million contract that tacked on an extra season if he underwent Tommy John surgery at any point. Lackey had the procedure in 2011 and missed the entire 2012 season.

In any of these deals you end up talking about lots of names on both sides Cherington said. Lackey obviously makes sense for them they're trying to win they have a contending team and he's a very proven guy and playoff tested so he makes perfect sense for them. For us the concept at work was to get proven major league talent particularly a starting pitcher and an offensive player. So we were able to find both of those guys.

The Cardinals entered Thursday just 2 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

Craig was an All Star in 2013 and one of St. Louis' top hitters over the past few seasons. But the 30 year old Craig struggled mightily this season batting a career low .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs in 97 games.

The departure of Craig likely means that promising 22 year old Oscar Taveras likely will see more time in right field for the Cardinals.

Kelly 26 is 2 2 with a 4.37 ERA in seven starts this season. He missed nearly three months with a hamstring injury and has struggled in four starts since returning from the disabled list.

Kelly figures to join a completely overhauled rotation in Boston where the Red Sox will be looking for replacements for Lester Lackey and Peavy.

ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes and Kyle Brasseur and ESPN Insider Jim Bowden contributed to this report.

Tigers acquire David Price in three team trade

In a stunning move that gives them three former Cy Young Award winners the Detroit Tigers have acquired David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three way deal with the Seattle Mariners.

A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed it to USA TODAY Sports. He spoke on condition of anonymity because it has not yet been announced.

The Mariners will receive center fielder Austin Jackson from the Tigers and will send infielder Nick Franklin to the Rays who also will receive lefty Drew Smyly and Class A shortstop Willy Adames.

Jackson was removed from the Tigers games against the Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning and replaced by Rajai Davis.

Price 28 is eligible for free agency after next season prompting the Rays to weigh whether to keep him for next season or trade him. That decision became complicated when Price and the Rays took off in conjunction He won six consecutive starts posting a 1.31 ERA in that stretch and the Rays went 10 1 to crawl back into contention in the AL East.

But Price lost what turned out to be his final start in Tampa Bay on Wednesday to the Milwaukee Brewers he was dealt almost 24 hours afterward for far less than the blockbuster offer it was assumed would be needed to acquire his services.

Instead the Rays settled on Franklin who has decent upside as a middle infielder and Smyly 26 a solid left handed starter with a 3.46 career ERA.

He's also four years away from free agency always a crucial consideration for Tampa Bay.

The Mariners meanwhile gives up Franklin but gain Jackson who will slide right into their center field equation as they battle to maintain their hold on the American League's second wild card spot.

The Cardinals are set to acquire right hander John Lackey from the Red Sox reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Boston will receive right hander Joe Kelly and outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig in the trade.

Trade detailsCARDINALS get RED SOX get P John LackeyP Joe Kelly OF Allen Craig

Lackey 35 is 11 7 with a 3.60 ERA in 21 starts and 137 1/3 innings this season. He returned from Tommy John surgery last year to go 10 13 with a 3.52 ERA in 189 1/3 innings. Lackey was a key piece of the pitching staff as the Red Sox marched to the 2013 World Series title.

Fantasy Trade analysis Lackey Craig impact

Lackey is under contract for only $500 000 next season thanks to a creative vesting option that was triggered by his elbow reconstruction. That dirt cheap year of control raised his trade value greatly.

The 26 year old Kelly is 2 2 with a 4.37 ERA in seven starts and 35 innings this year. He missed a bunch of time with a severe hamstring strain. Kelly is 17 14 with a 3.25 ERA in 38 starts and 30 relief appearances across parts of three MLB seasons.

The Cardinals acquired Justin Masterson from the Indians on Wednesday but obviously they still had concerns about their rotation due to Shelby Miller's struggles Michael Wacha's injury and Carlos Martinez's lack of innings. They'll pair Masterson and Lackey with Adam Wainwright Lance Lynn and Miller for the time being.

Craig 30 is hitting .237/.291/.346 (78 OPS ) with seven home runs in 97 games this season. He will join the just acquired Yoenis Cespedes to reshape Boston's outfield. Craig is a career .291/.343/.460 (120 OPS ) hitter and is owed roughly $27.5 million through 2017.

Within the last week or so the Red Sox have traded four fifths of their Opening Day rotation in Lackey Jake Peavy Jon Lester and Felix Doubront.

Jon Lester dealt for Yoenis Cespedes

BOSTON The Boston Red Sox traded ace pitcher Jon Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes to the Oakland Athletics not with an eye to the distant future but to next season acquiring slugger Yoenis Cespedes.

The Red Sox also will also get Oakland's competitive balance draft pick while the Athletics received cash considerations in the trade which bolsters Boston's historically weak outfield defense.

The deal which took place hours before baseball's 4 p.m. ET non waiver trade deadline Thursday marks the end of Lester's storied stint with the Red Sox who won two World Series championships with the left hander in their rotation.

The Red Sox made another multiplayer deal later Thursday sending veteran starter John Lackey to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Allen Craig and right hander Joe Kelly.

Lester who is scheduled to become a free agent after this season had publicly stated his desire to remain with the Red Sox. But contract negotiations stalled this past offseason when Lester reportedly turned down Boston's four year $70 million offer.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz a teammate of Lester's since 2006 tweeted farewell to the ace pitcher on Thursday morning.

Athletics general manager Billy Beane who has been the featured subject of a best selling book and hit movie but has never taken a team to the World Series left little doubt he is all in for October by making his second blockbuster trade for a starting pitcher in less than a month.

Beane surrendered his top two prospects to the Chicago Cubs on July 5 in a trade for All Star Jeff Samardzija and veteran right hander Jason Hammel. In Lester Oakland is adding a pitcher with a glittering postseason resume including a 0.43 career ERA in the World Series.

Beane followed up the Lester deal Thursday morning by trading left hander Tommy Milone to the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Sam Fuld. Oakland has a 66 41 record the best in the American League but leads the second place Los Angeles Angels by just 2 games in the AL West.

Lester will join a star studded Athletics rotation that already includes Samardzija All Star Scott Kazmir promising youngster Sonny Gray Hammel and Jesse Chavez. Hammel who has struggled badly since joining Oakland could be in danger of losing his rotation spot with the arrival of Lester.

The Red Sox had been seeking what one industry source termed a king's ransom in prospects for Lester from other potential trading partners which included the Pittsburgh Pirates St. Louis Cardinals Los Angeles Dodgers Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles.

But when those potential suitors were unable to satisfy their demands the Red Sox changed course with Oakland and acquired a proven major leaguer in Cespedes the two time reigning Home Run Derby champion.

The Red Sox had made finding a run producing outfielder a priority over the past month they had scouted Matt Kemp of the Dodgers as well. But Kemp was still owed $107 million over the next five years and Dodgers GM Ned Colletti in addition to giving Boston a firm no on his top prospects like outfielder Joc Pederson made it clear he was not moving Kemp.

Cespedes has 17 home runs this season three more than Boston's outfielders have combined to hit in 2014. He also possesses one of the game's most powerful throwing arms which in combination with center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and right fielder Shane Victorino should give the Red Sox a shutdown outfield defense.

At 28 the Cuban born Cespedes is two years younger than Lester (Cespedes turns 29 on Oct. 18) and will remain under contractual control by the Red Sox for at least another year. Though he has less than three years of major league service time Cespedes can become a free agent after the 2015 season through a clause in his contract that allows him to avoid salary arbitration and hit free agency.

Cespedes has had a rough month of July with a slash line of .198/.221/.352/.573 and on base percentages of .294 and .303 the past two seasons which do not fit the profile of what the Red Sox usually are seeking. But he should combine with Ortiz and Mike Napoli to give the Red Sox a formidable middle of the order presence and one who will regularly visit The Wall. Interestingly 11 of Cespedes' 17 home runs have come in cavernous Oakland Coliseum.

But in dealing Lester the Red Sox have paid a high price a homegrown staff ace who has proven durable and dependable and was enjoying arguably the best season of his career. He leaves Boston with a 110 63 record in parts of nine seasons with the Red Sox and was 10 7 with a 2.52 ERA in 2014.

Scratched from a scheduled start Wednesday Lester was 4 0 with a 1.07 ERA in his last eight starts with the Red Sox with 54 strikeouts nine walks and just one home run allowed in 58 2/3 innings.

But the Red Sox decided early on they would not pay the current market value for a premier starting pitcher. Their reported four year offer in spring training was worth less than half the six year $144 million deal Max Scherzer another impending free agent turned down from Detroit this spring.

Lester vowed that he would postpone further negotiations and adhered to that pledge even when Red Sox executives approached his agent Seth Levinson and asked to re open talks.

Because Lester was traded in midseason any team that signs him this coming offseason will not have to forfeit a draft pick as compensation which should only increase the market for his services. Even this week Lester said he would be open to returning to Boston but there is little reason to believe the Red Sox would pay a premium over what they could have signed him for while he was still in Boston.

In losing Gomes the Sox are giving up a valuable part time player who came to symbolize the Boston Strong motif adopted by the team in the aftermath of last year's Boston Marathon bombings posing with biceps flexed on an iconic Sports Illustrated cover last spring.

Gomes hit six pinch home runs while a member of the Red Sox one fewer than record holder Ted Williams and lived up to advanced billing as a platoon player who could hit lefties. He has a slash line of .302/.400/.431/.831 against lefties this season.

In Oakland Gomes returns to a club where he helped lead a young team to a playoff spot in 2012 and is likely to keep an impressive streak of playing for postseason teams having been on playoff teams with the Rays Reds Red Sox and the Athletics.

He leaves with a fond spot for Boston.

I'm in a situation right now where I'm getting packaged up with the best pitcher in the game heading over to the team with the best record in the game Gomes said in a phone interview with Boston sports radio station WEEI. I'm a little bit excited there but at the same time you talk about a soft spot in my heart soft spot with some of the relationships I've made in Boston and this chapter for the time being has come to an end.
