The four leads in the all female Ghostbusters are very nearly nailed down according to Hollywood Reporter. Speculation about casting has been buzzing ever since news broke last year that Paul Feig the director behind woman centric comedies The Heat and Bridesmaids would be directing a new version and his frequent collaborator Melissa McCarthy seemed like a shoo in. Her turn in Bridesmaids made her a huge star she starred opposite Sandra Bullock in The Heat and Feig also cast her in the upcoming comedy Spy. And indeed she s signed on. But who else made the cut

The answer is a trio of Saturday Night Live comedians past and present Kristen Wiig Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. (So if Rebel Wilson is getting cast after all it s not for one of the leads.)

Wiig and Feig have collaborated before on Bridesmaids. But this is the first time the director has worked with Jones or McKinnon. It s noteworthy that these two were cast because while both are hilarious neither are A listers. Can we read into this a little If so it seems like Feig is more interested in comedic chops than using superstars to sell movie tickets which seems very promising.

Jones 47 has been doing stand up since the late 1980s and has only recently gotten mainstream attention. She was promoted from writer to featured player on SNL last October and while the transition hasn t been entirely smooth she s brought a much needed boost of personality and energy to the show.

McKinnon meanwhile has been on SNL since 2012 and she was brought on just as Wiig was leaving giving viewers the impression that she was meant to be Wiig s successor. McKinnon has done some very funny work since and proven her impersonation skills imitating everyone from Ellen Degeneres to Angela Merkel to Justin Bieber (eliciting an approving LOL from the singer.)

With four very funny ladies that play over the top so well the only question is Who s going to be the straight man or you know straight woman
