After seeing the boys kill it (for the most part) on American Idol it was the ladies turn to deliver on Feb. 26. We re on the road in Detroit and some of the girls rose to the occasion Jax we re looking at you. On the other hand Loren Lott and Maddie Walker s performances left quite a bit to be desired. Take Our PollLovey James kicks off the night with One Republic and it s high energy but her vocals aren t great. The judges liked her song choice and energy yup they dropped the e word with the first contestant. Let s just move on.
Adanna Duru sang Rather Be and it was pretty amazing actually. She totally changed the arrangement slowing it down and letting her vocals shine. Keith Urban said it was a really good performance which showed her talent in a condensed time. Keith and I are on the same page for once
Next Alexis Gomez sang Miranda Lambert which is certainly risky considering the latter s ridiculous talent but Alexis showed the song what s up. I m not sure it was her best so far but it was still really great. Keith again said he loved it though urged her to maybe ditch the guitar. Well I loved it Alexis so Keith can just shhh.
Joey Cook was next and she took probably the biggest risk of the top 24. She sang Keith s own song and accompanied herself on the accordion It was weird and different but kinda amazing. Am I crazy guys or was that really awesome So did Keith like it It was fantastic that s what artists do A risk worth the reward
Captivating MagicKatherine Winston sang Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift and it was hauntingly beautiful. One of my favorites of the night so far. She didn t change the song much but who cares when it s so gorgeous to begin with Jennifer Lopez said her voice was both captivating and magical. I actually agree.
Can we pause for a brief moment of reflection here for how much the judges and I are agreeing tonight It s a rarity and I m not sure it ll ever happen again to this extent. Okay back to the recap.
Next Shannon Berthiaume who is singing live on television for the first time despite the fact she s never performed for anyone before this competition sang a Pink song. It was pretty good her voice is definitely unique but her uncertainty and greenness felt awkward. Harry Connick Jr. took the words right out of my mouth and said she might be too green literally as I typed the same word. I m not sure Shannon is ready for this.
Loren Lott hits the stage next and she sang a Charice ballad. As we know at this point on American Idol giant ballads can really make or break you. They can be chill inducing or incredibly cheesy. With Loren she falls somewhat in the middle I d say but leaning more towards the latter unfortunately. The judges liked it more than I did though (back to the status quo I guess).
Next up Shi Scott sang Umbrella by Rihanna and immediately I love how she s changed the song to make it something completely unique. Actually this is by far my favorite performance from Shi so far. Her voice wasn t perfect but perfection is overrated. But again the judges and I disagree they didn t love it but still think she s incredibly talented.
Song Choice Is KeyMaddie Walker sang Shania Twain and I ll just be blunt it was not good. It felt like I was watching Shania Twain Barbie out on the town for a night of karaoke. Keith and JLo agreed saying it wasn t the best song to showcase her voice. Song choice is key Harry said. Yeah I don t think Maddie is long for this competition.
Sarina Joi Crowe sang Something s Goin Down by Jessie J and her confidence was immediately felt. She sounded incredible she looked incredible she just felt comfortable especially following Maddie. JLo gave her the ultimate compliment saying you just rivaled Jessie J. And Harry again took the words out of my mouth You looked great you sounded great. Yup
Jax our girl Jax is up next. Not gonna lie this is the performance I have been waiting for. She sang Bang Bang by Nancy Sinatra not a common selection for American Idol. She sat still on a stool to kick things off then tore the stage up when the tempo picked up. What is there to say about Jax that hasn t been said already She s dope she s confident her voice is unique. I just love her. The judges agreed. We re so lucky to have you in the competition JLo said.
Tyana Jones finishes off the night. She sang Lips are Moving by Meghan Trainor a song I don t love to begin with so I might be a little prejudiced here. It was fun but I truly think Tyana could ve done so much more with a song that allowed her to show off her voice better. The judges all agreed that she has an incredible voice and she needs to just be you. Gotta love that specific Idol advice right

All of the girls with the exception of the last 3 were painful to watch. The guys have a much better pool of talent this year.

Bang Bang was written for and sung by Cher. Nancy Sinatra only sang an almodt unknown cover version. Thst is unknown until Nancy s cover was featured in the Kill Bill vol 1 movie. Amrrcan Idol should credit the proper artist.i
