Shi Scott 19 a former resident of Belcamp who lives in Gaithersburg belted out a rendition of Rihanna's Umbrella from the stage of The Fillmore Detroit in front of a live audience during Thursday's episode of American Idol.

Thursday's episode which was pre recorded was the first in this season in which viewers can cast their votes for contestants.
We are coming to you once again from one of the most prestigious music cities in America Detroit Michigan host Ryan Seacrest said during the beginning of the episode as he welcomed the cheering crowd at The Fillmore.
The show ended at 9 p.m. and viewers could cast their votes for up to two hours after the episode ended Thursday for Scott via phone at 1 866 436 5708 or by texting 8 to 21523.
Votes can also be cast online until 9 a.m. Pacific time Friday or noon East Coast time by visiting http //www.americanidol.com/vote or using the Fox Now app both are open to voters with valid Facebook accounts according to the Fox website.
Viewers with Google accounts can vote through Google Search Voting.
Voters can cast up to 20 votes per contestant.
The judges praised Scott's overall singing ability during the episode but noted her choice of song did not best suit her talents.
I don't think they got the best of you which makes me upset because you are an amazing singer Lopez told Scott. If they can feel you the way we felt you tonight you should go on for sure.
Scott said after she performed that the past week had been a lot.
I think I did the best that I could she said. I think I'm still learning and I want to stay
The Top 12 guys' performances aired Wednesday and the eight male contestants who received the most votes will be unveiled and perform during an episode that airs live March 4 according to a Fox news release.
The top eight female vote getters will perform during an episode airing live March 5.
