Former MLB player Darryl Hamilton killed in apparent murder suicide

Former major league player Darryl Hamilton was killed in an apparent murder suicide police in Pearland Texas confirmed to the Houston Chronicle. He was 50 years old.

Police were called to a home in the Houston suburb of Pearland by a person reporting a disturbance inside the home on Sunday afternoon. When they arrived they found Hamilton's body near the front doorway and the body of Monica Jordan 44 in a separate part of the home. The couple's 13 month old son was found unharmed in the home and turned over to Child Protective Services.

Hamilton was shot multiple times and Jordan had apparently died of a self inflicted gunshot wound police said.

Hamilton played 13 seasons in the majors from 1988 2001 as an outfielder. He played for five different teams and was a career .291 hitter.

Hamilton had been working as an analyst for the MLB Network until his death.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred issued a statement regarding Hamilton's death.

Hamilton's former teams the New York Mets Milwaukee Brewers San Francisco Giants Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies all issued statements on his passing.
